Election Advance Polls Open Friday
Prince George, B.C. – Those looking to cast an early ballot this Thanksgiving long weekend are in luck.
Advance polls will be available starting tomorrow through Monday from noon until 8pm each day.
“This is the first time we’ve added a fourth day to advance polling,” says Elections Canada spokesperson Dorothy Sitek. “We want to make voting accessible to all eligible voters and this is just one more way to provide access.”
And if you do plan on voting early, she says to make sure you head to the right location.
“We want to make sure people remember that unlike in the B.C. provincial election, where you can go to any poll to vote, for the federal election you must go to the poll that is associated with your home address.”
Sitek says that information can be found on your voter information card or online by punching in your postal code.
And of course, don’t forget your identification.
“You’ve got several options, the first is government issued ID and that would be a drivers licence or provincial ID,” says Sitek. “And it needs to include a photo, your name and your current address.”
She says if you have identification that matches that criteria, you’ll only need the one piece (if you don’t, click here for more information).
Sitek says those who can’t make it out to the polls have another option as well.
“You can even vote from the comfort of your own home by ordering a special ballot kit,” she says. “All it means is you’re essentially voting on a blank ballot, so you’ll need to write by hand the candidates name you’re selecting.”
In order to vote from home, Sitek says you’ll need to order a ballot kit by the end of the day on October 13 (click here for info) to ensure you have time to fill it out and send it back to Elections Canada by 6pm on October 19.
