Prime Minister Elect, Justin Trudeau Speaks
Prince George, B.C.- Justin Trudeau opened his acceptance speech quoting Sir Wilfred Laurier who said politics could be a positive force and “Today Canadians have chosen change, real change.”
Trudeau’s team rolled over Canada in tidal wave, giving Trudeau’s Liberals a strong majority government.
He said he wanted to first thank his family for their support “for allowing me to serve”.
He thanked Stephen Harper for his service to Canada, and added “Conservatives are not our enemies, they are our neighbours.”
He also offered congratulations to Thomas Mulcair “he fought to the end”.
“Lots of people are going to have lots of opinions about why we were successful, ” said Trudeau who added the win was the result of meeting with Canadians over the past three years, “and we listened. You told us what you need to be successful, and told us why kind of government you want and we built the platform to make it happen.”
“You are in the inspiration for our efforts” Trudeau told the crowd, “And you will be at the heart of this government”.
“I didn’t make history tonight, you did, don’t let anyone tell you any differently” said Trudeau ” I know I am on stage tonight for one reason and one reason only because you put me here and you gave me clear marching orders.”
