Clark Looks to Work with New Federal Government

Tuesday, October 20, 2015 @ 12:47 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Premier Christy Clark  has offered her congratulations  to Prime Minster Elect Justin Trudeau.

She focused her congratulations on  the economy, saying British Columbia will play a critical role in building the nation’s economy. “We are a very safe harbour in a very stormy economy  across the country.”

Clark also thanked Prime Minster Stephen Harper for his years of service noting he led the country through some  of the most difficult  times.  “I had a good  working relationship with Prime Minister Harper, and I expect I will have a good working relationship with Mr. Trudeau.” She also  congratulated  MP’s who  won, and recognized those who lost pointing  out their years of service and  continued  efforts to  bring  B.C’s  concerns to Ottawa.

While  her  government has been  developing balanced budgets,  the Federal Liberals plan to  run deficits for a few years.  Clark   is not a fan of deficits but says there is come common ground “One of the areas we are in complete alignment is that we should be spending more on  infrastructure.”

Premier Clark  has said softwood lumber agreement  is a top priority. But there has been little movement “It is urgent for British Columbia” said Clark “My approach is,  when you make a phone call and you can’t get through the first time what do you do?  You keep calling.”

Although there has been speculation Clark could become the next leader of the Federal Conservative Party, she says no, that is not in her plan “B.C. needs fighters too, and I’m going to make sure I stick around to do that.”

She’s a con in every sense of the word .

Her lips are moving so she is lying

What Ataloss & P Val said.

Doesn’t that apply to most politicians!!!

No matter which sex or party.

Hence why I love that her party are the “BC Liberals” but shes being considered as a potential leader for the Federal Conservatives…

BC Liberals, please change your name to reflect your actual ideology.

pgjohn, I agree, that the BC Liberals should change their name, to at least the BC Party.

As long as we trust that the politicians do mean well. They do have to bend the truth at times to get what they want. No different than describing the color gray. The intent is there to say it is gray, but your gray may be different than another persons expectation of gray. If your that uptight about a politician, perhaps you should be running for politics. Than you will soon realize that you are just the middle man between the populace and the buerocrats that run the country.

To me, I am not a big fan of Trudeau, nor Trudeau v.2. I know at the end of the day, the west will be over a barrel hanging onto your ankles. He is a easterner, and will make sure we support the lifestyle they want.

The BC liberal party is a coalition of liberals and red tories, she did take a ton of votes from traditional ndp supporters who felt Dix had move the party way too far left.Dan Brooks is the leader of the BC conservative party which is hardly a blip on the political radar.
Christy will bring home another victory against the invisible man next time we go to the polls, vote splitting between the ndp and the greens all but assure it. Not to mention that the dippers have perfected the art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the course of a campaign both provincially and now on the federal level.

They were the social credit party before a crushing defeat to the NDP. Same people, different name. Naming themselves the “BC Liberals” is misleading to those who have been taught where parties typical lie in the spectrum. (ie. Conservatives = right, Liberal = middle, NDP = left).

It’s funny, we have laws in place to prevent misleading advertising, yet the policy makers don’t follow this.

As someone who prefers a middle of the road approach. I just want a middle of the road party to vote for in BC.

Two things about this article that I disagree with.

1. Christy is too much of a light weight to be considered for the Federal Conservative Leadership.

2. BC is a safe harbor in a stormy economy across the Country??

Ask the workers at Endako, Cheywyn, Tumbler Ridge, how much of a safe harbor BC is. LNG going down the tube. Softwood Lumber Agreement expiring.

Not really all that safe.

Some people making comments about Christy not being a Liberal. Cant see anything on her that would indicate otherwise, same applies to Campbell.
Both are boni fide liberals as far as I know. I agree that their are some old time conservatives, in the BC Liberal party, but Christy is not one on them.

The BCLiberals have the same history as the Conservatives.

The BCLiberals were very much aligned with the policies of the Federal Liberals. When Gordon Wilson became the party leader, he managed to get 15 seats in Victoria. When the Socreds were ousted, some of them decided to join the BCLiberals, got rid of the leader, and took over. Some of them actually figured it was a coalition … LOL

The same with the Conservatives. They are no longer the Progressive Conservatives. When reformers and alliance took over they changed the name of the party, but they did not change the policies of the two outsiders …. another coalition was born ……

I agree, the BCLiberals should call themselves the BC Party. They entertained changing the name ….. that was a very entertaining exercise … ;-)

Initially Christy was from the left wing of the party when she won the leadership. Unless she has changed, she is not an alliance/reform type conservative. In fact, she may not be a conservative at all. Getting her to lead the party, if they want to get away from the reform/alliance mindset might actually be a good thing. I think she may have too much baggage by now, though.

Any region that is reliant on one main product or service is not a safe harbor. Picking out a small community that is dependent on resources or a single industry is not a safe harbour anywhere in the world.

BC is a relatively safe harbor since it has some diversification.

Compared to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland …. it is a much safer harbour for many reasons.

I think it would be great if Crissy replaced Stevie . At least she’d be living close to her handlers .

We haven’t really had that since WAC Bennett was Premier and the BC Social Credit League was in government, (not the ‘Party’ it morphed into later, after 1972, when the then BC Liberal caucus, or almost all of them, pulled what amounted to a ‘reverse takeover’ of Social Credit to avoid vote-splitting and letting the NDP get in for a second term under Barrett. Which, as it turned out, wouldn’t likely have happened in any case ~ for ‘fat little Dave’ was a disaster of his own un-electable making).

As the old Socred ads back then used to say, “Not a Party of the Left, nor of the Right, but a genuine grassroots, middle-of-the-road, free-enterprise Movement, with special privileges for none and equal opportunity for all.” We’ve sure moved a long ways away from that, no matter what any of the Parties that’ve governed us since have called themselves.

But it has virtually no control over its own finances. Oh, it can do its own books, and raise loans in its own name, but sovereignty over the ‘monopoly of credit’ lies elsewhere. Might have been different, once, way back when a very far-sighted BC Premier tried to charter a Bank of British Columbia with the Provincial government having an equity position in it. But the father of the guy just elected as PM, that fellow people like you now seem to be swooning over, gopg2015, (just like many swooned over his pappy, way back when), nixed that idea.

Even went so far as to enact legislation forbidding ANY provincial government from holding an equity position in any chartered bank. The leader of the Party of the debt dealers delivers just what he’s told to deliver. And they don’t like competition.

Now interestingly enough, one Paul Martin, senior, father of the later Prime Minister of the same name, was all for the Bank of BC as envisioned by WAC Bennett. Probably wrecked his chances of ever becoming PM, to which he was a long time aspirant. But PET? Unh-uh. Lets just see if junior follows in his old man’s footsteps.

For those suggesting that the BC Liberals rename themselves the BC Party, the name is taken. There’s already a BC Party in existence and registered with Elections BC.

I do not recall the “How Street Gang” caring about that when they infiltrated the BCLiberal party.

Socredible wrote: “But it has virtually no control over its own finances.”

So? … neither does any other province as you say. It is a moot point.

BTW, list the countries in the world which do not have a central bank and allow their member states, provinces, lands, etc. to control money supply?.

Maybe we could join countries like Ecuador, not have our own money, and use the US dollar, Euro, …. maybe Ruble ….take you pick.

Where do you come up with these whacky notions, socredible?
