Safe Patient Care Celebrated
Prince George, B.C. – Today marks the beginning of Canadian Patient Safety Week and Northern Health is doing what it can to raise awareness and celebrate safer care.
To mark the occasion, Northern Health leaders will be wearing t-shirts emblazoned with the phrase: Your Safety is Important to Us, all week.
The health authority has also made pamphlets loaded with health information available at Northern Health facilities for patients and their caregivers.
In addition to that, all health care providers and the public are invited to take part in the Canadian Patient Safety Institute’s national virtual forum on October 28, 29, and 30 (click here to learn more).
Northern Health is doing what it can to provide safe care year round. In fact it says over 9,400 patient safety events were recorded in 2014/15; 34% related to falls and 30% to medication/IV fluid/biologicals.

“safety event” does that mean there was an incident.. or are they saying these safety events are a good thing ?
To me its a nice way to say mistake.. %30 to medication/IV fluid/biologicals. I would like some clarity to exactly what that means. Hopefully its not saying over 3000 mistakes where made when it comes to administering medication etc.. horrendous numbers if thats what it means..

No kidding. 9,400 “patient safety events”? What does that even mean? Does that really mean there were over 2,820 medication related errors?
I’m starting to think that if you want to stay healthy, you need to stay away from our health care system.
I guess they neglected to report my mother in laws 2 falls in the hospital, because the staff are too dense to put up bed rails.
So Northern Health has over 7000 employees.. SO that is more than one “safety event” per employee per year. What other company is allowed that lousy of a safety record… WOrkSafe BC would be all over any other business with fines, closures, etc.. So why the special treatment for a place dealing with our health ????
What about safety events involving dangerous and abusive patients?
I think this sums up Northern Health perfectly…”Your Safety is Important to Us, all week.” Then after that week..its over..back to lousy service, long wait lines etc…
