Canada Post Puts Community Mail Box Plan on Hold
Prince George, B.C.- Canada Post has announced it is putting its switch to community mail box program on hold.
In a release issued from Ottawa, Canada Post says it is “temporarily suspending future deployment of the program to convert door-to-door mail delivery to community mailboxes.”
Canada Post says it will ” work collaboratively with the Government of Canada to determine the best path forward given the ongoing challenges faced by the Canadian postal system.”
There are some 460 thousand addresses across Canada that were in the process of being converted to a community mailbox system, Canada Post says efforts are “underway to place the comprehensive program on hold in an orderly fashion.”
Conversions planned for November and December of this year as well as those announced for next year are on hold. Canada Post says customers impacted can expect a letter ( delivered to their door) advising them of the decision.
In neighbourhoods where the conversions have already been made, customers will continue to use the community mail boxes, as will those who were set to start receiving their mail in the community boxes in October.
