“This is, by definition, anti-democratic. No individual American has the resources to ensure his or her economic and political interests are safeguarded within this vast global regulatory structure. The predictable and surely desired result of the TPP is to put greater distance between the governed and those who govern. It puts those who make the rules out of reach of those who live under them, empowering unelected regulators who cannot be recalled or voted out of office. In turn, it diminishes the power of the people’s bulwark: their constitutionally-formed Congress.”

I would like to see the RCMP crack down on all the substandard drivers in this city. Pro drivers as well as the want to bees. There is to much speeding tailgating failure to yeild failure to merge and the list goes on. if a crackdown was started people would learn. Also the RCMP need to follow the rules as well. U turns speeding turning lights on as an excuse to run a red light and the many other things done need to stop. Get the lap dogs out of the drivers seats or off the drivers lap. this is no joke lets see the bull sh,, gone.

Yes, that’s very true. How about having about a twenty car/officer team go from town to town in a blitz? I would like to see something like that happen. No warning, no advanced notice, just have them appear and go to work.
I’m sure they could pay for themselves quite easily.
Unmarked vehicles would make it twice as much fun.
ICBC could easily put this on. They have unused money,(lots of it!). It might even lessen our insurance rates.

Does anyone remember Northern Pizza on Opsika? The best Pizza I’ve ever had and then the business apparently burned down and they didn’t rebuild/reopen :(

Does anyone know if the persons who made the pizzas opened under another name or if they make pizzas and sell to the public here in town? It really was the best tasting pizza i ever had as a kid and still remember it

I remember Northern Pizza, LOL! Agree, it was very good. No clue who owned it though.

As for traffic enforcement, if people want to see more of it why not take your concerns to city hall and say that you want an increased presence? I think they would have to ability to help direct how their policing resources should be spent. This, of course, gets into another question though and that is whether the policing resources are adequate. All things being equal, if you increase traffic enforcement, you have to take officers off of other stuff that may be seen as higher priority.

The roving teams is an interesting idea, but I suspect it would have the photo radar effect where people smarten up while try are in town and then go back to their old ways once they leave. I think the most effective solution is to have a more permanent presence and to increase resources to accomplish it. Maybe time for the city to look at ways to make that work within their existing budgets.

As an aside, I couldn’t believe when we moved to Ottawa and saw police taking care of traffic control duties. It was like I had gone back in time. I must say though, people don’t do stupid stuff when you have a couple of officers directing things as opposed to some summer students.

I don’t remember Northern Pizza but I do remember a Chinese food place that was on Ospika in the early 70’s. Horrible food but they had a really busy delivery service. Turns out you could get side orders of heroin with your #9.

Two thumbs down for the students at College Heights Secondary School. So many of them spend their lunch throwing litter all over Domano boulevard.
Must be the children of the people that drive in the dark without headlights and refuse to use turn signals.

What’s with the huge rush when driving home after a Cougars game or any other event at CN centre? You always have a few very aggressive idiots who for some reason need to get home 3 minutes earlier than the rest of us. If everyone is courteous and takes their turn filing into the line then it goes smoothly..but you have these idiots always trying to butt in and screws up the flow.. If you really need to get home that fast then leave the event 5 minutes early to avoid the traffic.

I’ll chime in on the traffic thing.

I’m fed up with bullies. Men and women, from small cars to penis extensions ie: jacked up pickup trucks.

There is a relatively new common behaviour. If the person ahead of you has the unmitigated gall to do the speed limit or even up to 20 over, regardless of right or left lane, aggressively, obnoxiously, angrily and mercilessly tailgate that person until they move one way or another.

The other annoying pet peeve of mine is idiots imagining a right turning lane, and driving along the curb on the right side of a line of traffic stopped at a light or stop sign, barely missing their passenger side mirrors, and turning right.

You people are stealing the right of way of people in that line who might want to turn right but are following the rules.

Yesterday I saw a vehicle driving along the shoulder on Hwy 16 do this for at least 200m to turn right on Ferry, barely missing a light pole, kicking up rocks. And of course because this obnoxious fool did it, the lemmings followed.

Slow down people, it only takes 10 minutes to get home, even with a traffic jam.

“The other annoying pet peeve of mine is idiots imagining a right turning lane, and driving along the curb on the right side of a line of traffic stopped at a light or stop sign, barely missing their passenger side mirrors, and turning right.”

That’s almost as annoying as left lane hogs who end up turning right 10 kms down the road.

I always stick to the right hand side of the lane to help discourage people from using the curb lane as a turning lane.

So what is all the logging and land clearing going on boundary road. …someone is spending a lot of money. …is this housing projects or businesses just curious and have no idea

Now that the lib’s have their ORV registration in place ensuring another tax grab from the consumer I find it a bit ridiculous that the consumer has to prove the sales tax has been paid before registration can take place. Many quads or other ORV’s are 10 or 15 years old and bought from dealers in PG with the tax paid at the time of purchase.
Good luck trying to find the original sales contract as there was no need to keep the sales contract.
To add insult to injury the Lib’s now expect the ORV owner, in lieu of a sales receipt indicating the tax has been paid the ORV, to swear an affidavit at a notary that the tax has been paid and incur more out of pocket expense.
This whole scenario is nothing more than a CC scam to fleece the public of a few more dollars.

I missed that article on CTV yesterday about how stores relabel expired foods.. Tidbit I came across this morning… Yesterday I noticed some pies were to expire today.. Sooo I went there bright and early this morning only to find out they were all gone.. I enquired bout them and was informed by a staff some lady comes in soon as store opens and gathers all the expired pies and uses them at her restaurant.. hmmm Probably sells them as “fresh”..
Any thoughts on this practice??

You should try driving in Vernon. Soooooo many seniors who should not be driving. But the worst thing -by far- is the amount of drivers who only drive 30km’s per hour down EVERY road including the highway. Sadly it is always a senior driving. I’m sorry to say but there are a lot of seniors driving who should not have a drivers license.

I remember the days of driving in PG (a university city) where lots of young people drive faster. I was never held up.

Sighhhhh…..

“Now that the lib’s have their ORV registration in place ensuring another tax grab from the consumer”

_______________

When you say “another tax grab” I’m certain you’re referring to the conserv’s because they were in power for so long.

And let’s not forget that the conserv’s raised the age limit for Old Age Security from 65 to 67 instantly taking away a good portion of their purchasing power. A lot of those seniors probably used that money to help fund (or subsidize) their medications. I cringe when I think about how many seniors were no longer able to afford some of the med’s they so desperately needed.

Don’t worry about bad drivers. Googles self driving software will fix 99% of the problems by 2020. Looking forward to texting, sleeping, reading, watching movies and “driving”.

Driving practices are bad everywhere! People are in too much of a hurry all the time. Slow down, relax and enjoy the ride! It’s a privilege to drive not a right! That may be why the elderly are slow drivers. They are old and wise for a reason!

“Don’t worry about bad drivers. Googles self driving software will fix 99% of the problems by 2020. Looking forward to texting, sleeping, reading, watching movies and “driving”.”

Many drivers are doing some of this already! One can see them in action almost daily, especially the *weaker* sex! The only difference is that it will be legal!

prov 2,

I believe it’s all industrial.

Open message to all tailgaters:

Everyone hates you.

Digest that. And please take it personally.

News item this morning states that the Bunker C (mostly unrefined crude oil) burned in ships engines exceeds the strictly controlled emissions from car engines by more than 2,000 percent (two thousand)!

Is it a good idea to ship raw materials by viciously polluting bulk carriers to Asia and then have the manufactured junk shipped back to us by viciously polluting container ships?

How come this is not a frontline issue? Is it because consumerism and profits come first?

My pet peeve is morons that think they drive better than everyone else.
Try concentrating on the vehicle you are belted into and not what everyone else is doing.
Trust me you are in over your head with one car.

Many are quick to blame the tailgaters, and although I do agree that this is not a safe thing I don’t think they’re entirely to blame. Driving from the hart highway to town everyday is exhausting. People will drive all the way there in the left lane, preventing people from getting by. You may think your doing nothing wrong, but what your actually doing is irritating all those tailgaters that would like to go by. Move into the right lane and let them by. Why must you insist in driving in the left lane and holding up traffic behind you? And for goodness sake quit driving side by side with someone in the right lane!! Speed up and get in front or slow down and go behind!

Litter bugs…I’d like to see a crackdown on them. Especially the bush pigs that insist on leaving all their trash in our campsites and along the sides of every forest service road. A good start would be a trash tax on Budweiser beer because most of the cans are from people that drink that swill. Another one would be Tim Hortons…those cups are everywhere. When was the last time someone was fined for littering in this province anyway?

Jim13136. I agree. Not only do they leave their trash, but they throw out their old furniture, stoves, fridges, etc; Our back roads are a mess
and need to be cleaned up.

It is the responsibility of the Regional District, City, and Province to ensure that this garbage is picked up, and it is also their responsibility to ensure that those who are littering are charged under the applicable law. It is a rare site indeed to see a patrol vehicle working the back roads of the interior of this Province.

Just because some people break the law and pollute, does not mean that the various levels of Government can abdicate their responsibilities. We need to ensure that polluters are not given a free hand to pollute.

Why do people still have the “Save Door to Door” signs on their lawn? I thought the idea of community mailboxes was suspended?

——-

Now that the socialists are in power in Ottawa, people are expecting someone else to remove the signs.

The comment about self driving cars, well I can see some riotous fun in the future. If these cars hit the roads it would so much fun pulling in front of one while the inattentive passengers are sleeping, reading, texting, procreating or whatever, slam on your brakes, the robot car would nail its brakes. Now just imagine the mayhem inside the robot car, passengers not knowing what is happening all thinking they are about to die.

Oh wait maybe it was a moose.

So newtechie at what age will you give up your drivers license, if you are lucky enough to make it that far.

Wondering if anyone knows what is going on at the hydro sub station on Chief Lake Road? Looks like a large project. A lot of land clearing, digging and other activity. Enquiringly minds want to know…lol.

newtechie, you might want to use some of your new tech to research changes to OAS! I suspect that you might be fear-mongering by putting forth incorrect information!

You state: When you say “another tax grab” I’m certain you’re referring to the conserv’s because they were in power for so long. I cringe when I think about how many seniors were no longer able to afford some of the med’s they so desperately needed.”

newtechie, I’m not entirely sure, but I believe that the changes to OAS were to be phased in, starting in 2023!

If this is in fact the case, nobody has so far been affected by the proposed changes! Nobody has “instantly” had a good portion of their purchasing power taken away! Nobody has been faced with no longer being able to afford some of the med’s that they so desperately needed, at least not because of proposes changes to OAS that were to be phased in, starting in 2023!

I could be wrong, but I’ll leave that up to you, newtechie, to correct me if I am!

Wonder how many climate researchers, aka rent seekers from UNBC will be taking a taxpayer paid carbon trailing junket to the Paris climate party. What will the cost be? Seem to be no worry in the production of carbon, aka evil c02, to a attend a party in an exotic location by thousands of scientists, media, politicians.

What a bunch of hypocrites when with todays tech tele conferencing could be used. But hey, then they will miss taxpayer funded party.

Axman:”Now that the socialists are in power in Ottawa, people are expecting someone else to remove the signs”

According to the outcome of the last election the seats of the Social Democrats (NDP to the uninitiated) were reduced to 44. How does that give them any power?

Dani I agree with you. But my pet peeve is when I am in the outside lane on the Hart, and someone in the inside lane matches speed with me, then some Ahole starts tailgating me to see if he can push me ahead so he can pass me on the right because he couldn’t get the guy in the left to move. I’m already 5 k over the limit, I’m not speeding up to make his life easier.

I have long realized RCMP have abandoned any pretense of traffic enforcement. You’re own your own out there. So if someone tailgates, I suggest you follow police advice. Slow down – but slow down gradually, and pull to the side of road, gradually. And if there’s on-coming cars, dumbass will just have to wait until he can pass you. Do it enough times, and maybe T.G.s will learn to just give you some space and pass you when safe to do so. I travel 10 k over limit on Chief Lake and still have this crap to deal with. How fast you want me to go. We do have moose out there?

Funny thing is, you walk around PG, people are friendly, hold doors open for each other, buy the guy behind them in the drive through a coffee. Then the same people get behind a car or truck, and turn into aholes.

no traffic enforcement because the money was spent on the palace. I just did an extended trip in the states and everyone pretty much has the speed limit nailed. Saw cops patrolling and radar traps. I wonder if it has something to do with local law enforcement being elected. Getting elected gives encouragement to actually do something.

School zones in the states, don’t even think about exceeding the speed limits, some schools have their own cops patrolling.

Are you talking about the the UN Climate Change Summit? You aren’t honestly suggesting it could be done via video conferencing, are you?

pgbcca, I used to play softball with one of the brothers who owned & operated Northern Pizza. Sadly the business was a casualty of a divorce settlement. As far as I know, all the parties involved left PG quite some time ago & the restaurant was never reopened anywhere else. Truly was some of the best pizza I have had this side of the Rockies.

The Federal Liberals are a socialist party as well; sort of on par with our Provincial NDP. The Federal NDP are wayyyyy out there in left field.

NMG not with out a first class party I suppose with lots of booze to drown out the endless BS.

ski51 I definitely agree. The people driving in the left lane are causing the issue. There’s no reason to push someone in the right lane, as people should not be passing there anyway.

Its as simple as the left lane speeding up or slowing down and moving into the right lane, then resuming the same speed. Why this is such a difficult concept I have no idea. Traffic would move much smoother.

It’s not all about just the Hart.

Last week I was going with the flow up Peden Hill… a 60 km/hr high volume road… both lanes packed solid with traffic… I was in the left lane and that lane was travelling 70 to 80 km/hr.so yes, I was speeding too.

Some lunatic in a white F-150 wearing – get this – a high viz safety vest… violently tailgating me. As my truck’s rear bumper cleared past a City of PG sanitation truck ( big yellow thing of some sort) this oaf yanks his wheel to the right, guns it to at least 110 kph, squeezes at a dangerous angle between my back bumper and the City truck’s front bumper, screams up the right lane about 25m into the back of the right lane traffic.

As my left lane traffic all signalled left turns to go onto Domano, idiot boy with steam blasting out his ears is sitting behind 15 vehicles at the Domano/Hwy 16 red light.

Moral of the story? Both lanes bumper to bumper. One a-hole wants to do 110 to 120 in a 60 zone.

And we are all the problem? And no, there was no way I was going to go in the right lane to allow him to pass. This is a 60 kph high volume feeder to Domano and Tyner. People aren’t going to be zig zagging back and forth between lanes to “keep right except to pass” in the short distance from Range Rd to Domano to turn left, in order to accommodate lunatics that want to speed. Besides, that rule ONLY applies to 80 kph zones or higher!!!!

Every time one of these tailgating, agressive, arrogant losers behave like this I just shake my head. Always meet them at the next light.

Slow down, relax, maybe your blood pressure will come down and people might like you more.

Perhaps a little less drive thru coffee?

when it comes to speeding PG is not alone.. they did a speed check on highway 101 around the Toronto area and 3700 vehicles where all speeding. there are buttheads always in a rush.. or just people who think they are such good drivers they can speed.. this is when defensive driving comes into play… just get out of the idiots way.. karma will catch up to them…

I don’t think anybody thinks its “all about the Hart”, people base there opinions off what they know. I know the hart highway which is why I used it as an example.

When traffic is backed up like that there is no reason to go crazy and weave through lanes. There’s nowhere to go and everyone’s trying to get through so drive in whatever lane you’d like. My example was directed more towards when the right lane is clear or has few cars in it.

Whether or not the “keep right” rule applies or not I think its good practice on any long stretch. Traffic would flow better, and it would prevent some of the road rage that we’ve all seen or maybe experienced for ourselves. Ill be the first to admit that I’m not above it and I have been annoyed with other drivers preventing me from getting through.

when it comes to speeding PG is not alone.. they did a speed check on highway 101 around the Toronto area and 3700 vehicles where all speeding

=======================

Not all speeding is the same though. There are times on the 401 (100 KM/H posted speed limit) where traffic flows at 130 KM/H and doing 110 KM/H will get you run over. Of course, this is also on multi lane divided highway, with good visibility, great signage, proper exit and merge lanes, etc.

The excessive speeding you see on Peden Hill, the Hart Highway or even the bypass is far worse and far more dangerous IMHO.

I wonder what the person driving across the train tracks at PG Pulp thought last night when the train hit him?

Be careful where you buy used vehicles from in PG. There is an investigation going on.

Axman:”The Federal Liberals are a socialist party as well; sort of on par with our Provincial NDP.”

Actually the NDP is the only party in Canada which runs both the agendas of the Federal NDP that of each Provincial NDP party, kind of joined solidly at the hip! The Federal Liberals and Provincial Liberals are the ones that are fought tooth and nail by the NDP at every opportunity, always to the advantage of the Conservatives.

Then explain why so many the politicians from the Provincial NDP’s who went on to Federal politics ran as Liberals? Should they not have run as NDP?

Reality therapy! They simply saw the light! No future in the NDP, take Bob Rae as a prime example. The recent election was proof as well: Again still in opposition. The NDP and the Liberals have a lot of common goals. They should never be fighting each other as the future will require co-operation and coalition when the new election system becomes law. Joining in a coalition with the Conservatives would wipe the NDP out as a party.

Prince George:-“The NDP and the Liberals have a lot of common goals.”
========================================================================
Yes, and the primary one they both share is to keep their financial masters happy and keep the purchasing power of money in the hands of the general public chronically deficient. They’re both great at telling us how they’ll solve all our problems by “…robbing Peter to pay Paul”. Through punitive taxation, to enforce greater “equality”, they say. What they don’t say is all this does is level almost everyone DOWN. The actual ‘rich’ are seldom victimised in the slightest by their taxation increases ~ they always fall hardest on those with the ambition and initiative still trying to get up the economic ladder under their own power. They run out of “Peters” pretty quickly, in other words, and the “Pauls” are still left wanting.

Both Parties are great at talking about ‘re-distributing’ wealth. Except you’ll never hear either of them ever call for a re-distribution of the National Debt. Does it not dawn on them that if the country is said to be some multi-hundreds of billions the ‘poorer’ by the amount of its burgeoning National Debt, then those who hold that debt must be that much the ‘richer’? Just who may that be? WHO actually holds most of this debt, and just WHERE did THEY get the money from? Money that’s about to increased massively for the next three years as junior begins to run his infrastructure deficits? Are YOU going to lend it to him? Do YOU have that kind of dough laying around, dormant, in your bank account, or buried in a can in your back yard, or under your mattress?
