Possible Cause for Chateau Fire
Prince George, B.C.- It isn’t confirmed, but Prince George Fire Rescue investigators think they know what sparked yesterday’s fire at the Prince George Chateau retirement complex.
The likely culprit is a faulty electrical cord that was either attached to, or at least very near, a reclining chair.
Fire Chief John Iverson says at this point, it’s believed the cord sparked the fire.
The fire yesterday morning sent three people to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and nearly 150 other residents of the complex were forced to leave their units and spend a few hours on three buses to keep warm.
Most residents were allowed to return to their units by late yesterday afternoon, others, who lived near the west wing suite which was the scene of the fire, have been relocated within the facility in order to allow restoration and clean up crews easy access to the area needing repairs.

And I almost made some insensitive remark about someone smoking in a building there’s no smoking.
I think smoking is allowed there. It’s just like any other apartment building but without cooking facilities. You pay your rent, you can smoke in your own apartment.
I am also one of those guilty ones that assumed smoking was the culprit. Shows its good to wait for the truth to come out before assuming.
