Prince George, BC – Three calls kept the Prince George Fire Rescue Department busy over the past 24 hours.
Last evening got off to a hot start with a car fire on Chestnut Drive in the north end of the City. No one injured. The vehicle was destroyed, but the fire did not cause any damage to neighbouring buildings.
Then around 9 last night, a fire was reported at the new Northland Dodge facility on RecPlace Drive. That fire was doused by the sprinkler system in the paint shop area . The cause and damage estimate are not yet available.
Then around 5:30 this morning, crews were sent to the Lakeland Mills site to handle a fire that had broken out in the hog pile on the property. Fires in piles of organic material are not new, as the decaying materials create heat. This is the second organic compound fire in Prince George this year, as there was a similar situation at the Foothills landfill earlier this year in a compost pile.
The activity came off the heels of a fire yesterday at the PG Chateau retirement complex off Tabor Boulevard. A recliner in one of the suites had caught fire, three people were sent to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
