Charges Laid in Year-old Mackenzie Homicide

Mackenzie, B.C. – Charges have now been laid in connection with the death of a Mackenzie man more than a year ago.

In August of 2014, the family of 49-year-old Maurice Wallace contacted the Mackenzie RCMP to report him missing after routine communication with him suddenly stopped.

A short time after he was reported missing, his body was located in an outbuilding on the property he lived on.  North District Major Crime attended and assumed conduct of the investigation. It was determined that foul play was involved and the investigative team ruled the missing person report was instead being investigated as a homicide.

During the course of their investigation police apprehended a 17-year-old youth under provisions of the Mental Health Act.

North District Media Relations Officer Cpl. Dave Tyreman says that on October 14th, 2015, charges of second degree murder and indignity to human remains were approved by Provincial Crown Counsel against an 18 year old man whose identity cannot be released as he was a young person at the time of the offence.
