Prince George Remembers

Prince George, B.C. – A standing room only crowd packed into the Prince George Civic Centre this morning for this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony.
The mood was sombre and at times emotional – as young and old remembered those who both gave their lives and served our country in order to secure our freedom.
Veterans spanning several decades of conflict were on hand- those who served during WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Afghanistan and in peacekeeping missions.
Members of the RCMP were also recognized for putting their lives on the line every day at work.
Emotion filled the air as Henk Bekkering from the Dutch community and MLA Shirley Bond remembered the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands.
Following the laying of the wreaths a parade assembled outside and marched off to the cenotaph. A reception at the Legion (1116 6th Ave) will follow.

To all of those that have served their country, thank you.
Do we still have veterans or are they all legionnaires like club members
Cheers
?
Hey retired time for you to get out of the Abby stink.
go fall on your sword Retired 02.
Yes there are lots of veterans… the Gulf and Afghanistan wars are not the long since over.
If you can’t stand behind out troops I am sure we can find a spot for you in front of them.
bc racer
Please be a little bit more respectful of our veterans. Retired 02 served with the Canadian Forces in that all too forgotten war in Korea. He asked a legitimate question.
Just for the record, between 1950 and 1956, over 25,000 Canadians served in Korea, and 516 died. The United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan, South Korea has the remains of 378 Canadians who died during the war.
As far as I know, there has not been a war since then which has had more Canadians serving our country and as many dying with countless more who have had life altering injuries.
BTW, that post of mine is also directed at all those who gave bcracers comment a thumbs up, totally out of ignorance!! :-(
Just for the record and in a response to Retired 02 for info on those who gave their lives as military personnel for the service to Canada spanning almost 70 years:
More than 1,800 Canadians are commemorated in the Seventh Book of Remembrance, In the Service of Canada. They gave their lives in service to their country, including peacekeeping and other foreign military operations, domestic operations and training, since October 1947.
Those listed under the Korean war are not included in that number.
And one more post to complete the info about the past and to give some context, something which we should be reminded of on Nov 11th commemorations and rarely ever are:
South Africa War (1899-1902) – Approximately 7,000 Canadians served; almost 300 of them gave their lives..
First World War (1914-1918) – Approximately 650,000 Canadians served, including members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served with British forces (Newfoundland was a colony of Great Britain until 1949) and merchant mariners. Of this number, more than 68,000 gave their lives.
Second World War (1939-1945) – More than one million Canadians and Newfoundlanders served in Canada’s Armed Forces, in Allied forces or in the merchant navy; over 47,000 of them gave their lives.
“Please be a little bit more respectful of our veterans. Retired 02 served with the Canadian Forces in that all too forgotten war in Korea. He asked a legitimate question.”

He was trolling plain and simple, otherwise he wouldn’t have made the “club members” comment.
All he had to do was read the story about our Legion’s President to know that we still have a lot of vets active in the Legion.
Thank you gopg2015 with.
Tell me how many veterans does the Prince George Legion have or the legion in Abbotsford? I was in the Parade there were three veterans the rest were Legion members. Its not about veterans Its about the Canadian Legion.
Cheers
