Prince George, B.C.- The capacity crowd that attended the indoor Remembrance Day service at the Civic Centre in Prince George this morning, moved to the front lawn of Prince George City Hall for the laying of wreaths.
Under brilliant sunshine and a crisp breeze, thousands applauded as the Veteran contingent of the parade to the cenotaph wound its way to Veteran’s Plaza.
New this year, is a double arch with enough space to hang wreaths instead of trying to find a place on the narrow and sometimes slippery steps of the actual monument.
The first to step forward to place wreaths, were members of the four Silver Cross families in Prince George. Those who had lost a loved one either directly as a result of their service, or as a result of injuries sustained while in service. The families of Darren Fitzpatrick, Matthew McCulley, Gregory Matters and Kirby Tott, stepped forward and each family placed a wreath on the top row of the metal arch.
With piper Sheldon Clare playing the “Skye Boat Song” in the background, wreaths were then laid by MP Todd Doherty, Mayor Lynn Hall, MLA Shirley Bond, the Lheidli T’enneh, Rocky Mountain Rangers, Royal Canadian Legion, the Dutch community, and the RCMP before members of the public were invited to place their wreaths.
