Friday Free for All – Nov. 13th

Thursday, November 12, 2015 @ 11:59 PM

So it’s Friday the 13th, but there is no need for concern,  because  there is good fortune in that today, it’s time for the Friday Free For All.

You pick the topic,  but, keep  your comments brief, (and can we all agree that  the election  really IS over?)  and obey our three simple rules:

Keep it clean

Keep it legal

No Bullying.

Word on the street is that the foundation next to the public library is going to be a 6-story wood building for Marriot. I am guessing that this would be similar to the wood innovation building. It sounds like they want to start right away.

So my thought is if we have two building two blocks apart. One building a 6-story wood building, and the other a 6-story metal frame construction… both I would assume having a modular aspect to them.

So in effect then we have a high noon type showdown shaping up Quebec street. A great opportunity to contrast two building styles; one from the Mediterranean, and the other from the pine forests of BC.

I think they should float it to some TV folks as a reality construction 6-part series where it showcases the two different techniques to mid-rise construction, and during the process can also highlight all the hype this region has heard the last 20-years and hope some of it sticks. Maybe help to create a momentum perception boom.

Either way it would be win-win for PG. If the wood building proves the winner of a cost benefit analysis, then that’s good for BC’s mid-rise wood construction industry; and if the steel frame modular model wins out maybe PG could cement itself as their North American base of operations for future local projects.

I have a concern about the level of wide load traffic on our highways and the lack of our infrastructure and regulations to deal with this. I think the problem is getting to be an epidemic and will only get worse with the soon to be Site C traffic making its way through the region.

Just in this last week alone I’ve seen three incidents involving a wide load contact with another vehicle. We have highways that are not rated for the wide loads, we have wide loads that are not calling their location, and we have wide loads that have next to no visibility of their load that others can see.

The infrastructure is horrible in spots. Salmon Valley and Parsnip bridges are simply not designed to accommodate wide loads. Lots of loads are not even using pilot cars; for example an empty low bed still protrudes wider than your average freight trailer. These drivers need to be calling their location when going into tight locations that have no shoulder or white line even, which is common on our northern highways.

The visibility is also an issue. Sure they may flag the corners and what not, but that gets so covered in road grime, and with snow flying it becomes completely moot and obscured. What is needed is some sort of regulation that requires a beacon on every corner that protrudes beyond the width of the tractor (like on the tracks of excavators). Something that can get covered in road grime, but still give a good indication to the dimensions oncoming.

Its almost to the point I think where maybe wide loads need more restrictions as to the hours they can operate, as in not during snow storms, nor during low visibility. But that’s not practical, so maybe what is needed is some large road signs that have call out phrases a driver needs to convey as to their location and direction in known areas of tight road configurations. I think the highway road signs for Lad1 call outs would be beneficial just in sharing the information with others on the road (due to inadequate infrastructure) as to when there is eminent danger.

No different than one calling their kilometers at the road signs on a resource road.

Furthermore I think those doing the road recoveries need to invest in some proper visibility gear. Putting out signs in blowing snow, covered in road grime and falling over… sometimes isn’t enough on its own.

I think any active recovery should have its own specific type of sign with a three corners of the sign sporting strobe lights that can’t be missed.

Strobe lights are cheep when compared to the cost of a life. Strobe lights should be mandated as a standard on wide load corners, and on road recover signage.

I would really like to see 250 news remove the thumbs up thumbs down rating app from our comments. I don’t think they serve any real useful purpose.

Steve Munroe. It’s the next story down.

School Lunches…Why would you have children if you can not afford to feed them.I bet all the kids that use the food program, have cell phones, cable tv at home. If the Parents have money for these items, why no money for food. If a singe Mom or Dad, where is the other Parent? The Parent not living with the child should have to pay and upkeep of children also, NOT the rest of society. The parents can afford to get laid but not support their children. Maybe if you do not support your offspring, The Government should spade both the Parents.

Driving lights/LED light bars and fog lights…these are all excellent items to have while driving at night. PLEASE, turn them off when others are coming at you. Getting really tired of being blinded by fools who think it is their right to leave these lights on when oncoming vehicles are approaching them.

Careful Donald. What you just said could be construed as a hate crime under the precedence of a case just settled yesterday in Quesnel.

By stating, “The Government should spade both the Parents.”

You infer that ‘spade both parents’ I would assume this is an action of some sort meant to harm them? And by ‘government should’ you are advocating action?

The case in Quesnel was for some Topham guy that wrote what he claimed was satire advocating the removal of reproductive rights for Jews. This was seen as a hate crime for advocating a violent act on an identifiable group.

Of course if one is advocating to ‘spade’ a deadbeat parent, then it is a lot more socially acceptable than to call for the castration of a highly organized and well connected demographic. Both comments equally fit the definition of a hate crime as the courts have defined it, so really what it amounts to is a vague line of reasoning where ones rights to free speech exist and where they end… and this vague line of reasoning is movable based on the politically correct whims of the day.

Today is your lucky day Donald, because you have more thumbs up than thumbs down, so you get a pass so long as some cabal of deadbeat dads isn’t conspiring somewhere to put you in your place with a class action hate crime allegation… or for the rest of us an internet take down order once we are signed up for the Trans Pacific Partnership treaty.

Just saying.

And did I read that right on another local web site that the Dinosaur rip off show last weekend at CN Center used homeless people to man the rides and watch over the kids program; and then at the end of the day stiffed them all of their pay calling them volunteers (one would assume not worthy of their volunteer stipend).

Maybe the CN Center might want to do more homework on who they rent the place out to in the future. I am not sure how an organization with shady practices like that can be allowed to operate in this day and age.

The question of the day is how many unpaid homeless people does it take to fleece the good people of PG out of their hard earned dollars with an over hyped kids candy type of event. I think I heard 50. Maybe next time they can source from the prison and the rides won’t have such long line ups….

I agree watchdog, why do drivers need to have the so called fog lights on on a clear day or while driving downtown at night with street lights on and no fog. Another thing is those blue or bright white lights, they blind you from behind and coming at you. By the way, having light bars and clear driving lights uncovered are illegal on highways. Just ask the drivers who were pulled over on the Hart scales recently and see how much they were fined.

Ashley Furniture:
Apparently opening in Prince George soon. What they don’t tell you shoppers is what goes on behind the scenes making this furniture. OSHA has put this company in the “severe violator enforcement program” because of multiple citations failing to protect their workers from equipment starting up during cleaning, changing blades, and clearing jams. So no lock out procedures and many of the citations are from not having proper guards on moving parts. They have been fined $1.8 million in the last year for these citations. The most recent being $431,000 for not reporting a worker finger being amputated. They have had 1000 recordable incidents in the last 3 years. To me this says they put production and profit over the lives and well being of their employees. Based on this alone I will never step foot in that store.

Not all Driving lights are illegal. As long as they are SAE approved and wired to your high beams and a separate switch. You can have them uncovered.

Thanks Dave I was unaware of that, I know yellow are legal wired as you mention but first I’ve heard of the same on clear.

For those eho are interested Here are driving and fog light rules

Auxiliary driving lamps

(2) An auxiliary driving lamp must be directed so that the high intensity portion of the beam is, at a distance of 8 m from the lamp, at least 12 cm below the height of the lamp and, at a distance of 25 m from the lamp, not higher than 1.06 m from the road surface.
(3) An auxiliary driving lamp must operate so that it is illuminated only when the upper beam of a multiple beam headlamp is illuminated.
[en. B.C. Reg. 476/98, s. 2.]

Fog lamps
4.11 (1) A motor vehicle may be equipped with 2 fog lamps, mounted on the front of the vehicle below the headlamps, that are capable of displaying only white or amber light.
(2) Each fog lamp must be
(a) mounted not more than 30 cm below the headlamps, and
(b) adjusted and aimed so that, at a distance of 8 m from the lamp, the centre of the beam is at least 10 cm below the height of the fog lamp.
(3) The fog lamp wiring and switch must permit simultaneous operation of the parking lamps, tail lamps, licence plate lamp and, if required, clearance lamps.
(4) The operator of a vehicle may use fog lamps instead of headlamps when atmospheric conditions make the use of headlamps disadvantageous.

The thumbs up thumbs down feature is a loopy left / union flunky detector. Watch.

Donald, you feel that your much better than everyone else, thus you feel that your right to reproduce is better than everyone else. I think your parents should have been spaded.

Not that it’s a big deal, but I think the term is “spay” which refers to neutering females. For males, it’s castration

At the risk of getting a buttload of thumbs down, I’m going to suggest those complaining about the thumbs up/down feature are the ones who consistently get a lot of thumbs down on their posts.

Tarnfeather, spay or neuter? Castration is a bit more extreme.

Spaded might be a little painful.

Unless they’re playing “Go Fish”.

Donald I suggest you go over to Ron Brent school and tell the teachers there what you think. I dare ya. Using that school as one example you have shown total ignorance of the subject.

You said “Why would you have children if you can not afford to feed them” I am amazed someone could actually say that, that is quite the bubble you live in. Ever heard of drugs, alcohol that ravage families leaving children to basically fend for themselves.

Amazing, just amazing.

We are not all born into the lucky sperm club. You would rather let children with troubled parents go hungry, through no fault of their own? Nice.

Oem auxiliary lights, are the main problem in town. manufactures have made these so bright in some cases they are blinding, forcing me to use my highbeams to see the road which helps a bit, I know compounding the problem, but blind or not blind.

For the added auxiliary lights, light bars generally much less of a problem than oem lights. Those added lights by the way are a life saver on the open road for detecting wild life and obstacles in time to take action. In general those that I have come across not dimming them on the highway will as soon as I flick my highbeams. Most likely just forgot.

Those lights save lives on the highway, which the cops don’t seem to be interested in.

Oh some cop vehicles their off road lights hiding behind the grill?

Dejgun, about Ashley Furniture.

We bought some recently at a local store. It was exactly what we were looking for, well made and the price was right. It was all made in China. Are you saying that Ashley will have a factory here in Prince George? If so, I am sure Canadian laws regarding safety will apply.

i feel sad for the people in Syria , but Canadians have to come first. In to days paper a article shows Syrian refugees outside their embassy waiting to apply for passports, it’s all men only one woman walking by fully clothed from head to foot. My concern is Jobs , Health checks, Womens rights, housing. Are we still going to be needing TFWs to fill jobs with all the new people coming to Canada that are going to be needing jobs.

okay, the word is spayed not spade

A person would have to be pretty thick to not understand what you were trying to say bcracer or be a nit ( louse egg) picker .

does anyone else notice that there ore a huge percentage of men in the group, and in the refugee seekers overall. One of them said in an interview recently that the men were going to get settled in a new country fist before sending for their wives and children…WHAAAT? Does this mean that they actually left their wives and children in a WAR ZONE while the man left for safety???

What kind of a man would do that to his family?

What kind of a man would willingly leave his family in a dangerous country where war and violence has become a way of life for the terrorists who promote it?

This reeks of the lack of respect that women have in their culture.

Personally I am very uncomfortable with admitting to Canada, men who treat their wives as second class citizens as so many of those from the middle east openly practice.

If anyone has a problem with Syrians coming to Canada via refugee status. I would like for you to check your ethnic background and see how your family ended up in Canada. We are a nation built by immigrants. So 25k desperate people looking to better their lives would be nothing but a good thing. The men, woman and children looking to settle in Canada will be hard working individuals just wanting a chance in life. And if we as a nation can give them that chance. I am all for it.

Well said sergio . Our family fled the soviets .

Speaking of Syrian Refugees, I find it very interesting that today I read that Justin and Co. are now clarifying their refugee target.

They campaigned on a promise to fast track 25,000 “Government sponsored” Syrian refugees by year end. Now, they are amending this promise to suggest that the 25,000 sponsored refugees will be a mix of Government AND privately sponsored refugees!

From the article:

Liberals clarify refugee target

The Liberal government of Justin Trudeau is being accused of breaking one of its key election promises, after confirming a combination of government and private sponsorships will be used to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the year.

The Liberal election platform promised to “expand Canada’s intake of refugees from Syria by 25,000 through immediate government sponsorship.” It added a Liberal government would “also work with private sponsors to accept even more.”

Speaking to reporters Thursday in advance of his first trip abroad as prime minister, Trudeau said resettling 25,000 Syrian refugees “is a significant commitment that will make a big difference.”

He acknowledged it will be a “tremendous challenge,” but added: “It’s something I have a great deal of confidence on.”

Yet with exactly seven weeks until that deadline expires, and questions mounting over whether the promise can be kept, Immigration Minister John McCallum said the 25,000 to be resettled by Dec. 31 will include both government-assisted and privately sponsored refugees.

“What we have said from the beginning is that we are committed to government-sponsored refugees and in addition we encourage the private sector to come forward as much as they can with private sponsorship,” McCallum said. “So we will have a mix of the two.” Asked for clarification, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada spokeswoman Diane Laursen said in an email the Liberals have two targets. The “short-term objective” is to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees through private and government sponsorship by the end of the year, she said.

“Additional government-sponsored refugees will arrive into the new year as the government meets a specific target of 25,000 government-sponsored Syrian refugees,” she added.

Including privately sponsored refugees makes the new government’s job to resettle 25,000 Syrians by the end of the year much easier.

According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, nearly 1,800 Syrians have arrived in the country since the previous government promised to accept 10,000 by 2017. Of those, the government sponsored 275, while nearly 1,500 arrived through private sponsorship.

There are also hundreds of applications from church groups, community associations and other private sponsors currently being processed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

So, less than two weeks in power and Justin and Co. are already backpeddling, amending, clarifying, whatever, one of their key election promises!

Less than two weeks! Go figure!

Oh, I forgot to mention:

Can’t trust Justin!

Prince George –
The factory I am referring to is in Wisconsin. I can just imagine what goes on in China. My point is the make billions and fines or employees mean nothing only profit. Sad!!

HG, you are splitting hairs, again.

“Now, they are amending this promise to suggest that the 25,000 sponsored refugees will be a mix of Government AND privately sponsored refugees!”

Of course private sponsors will be included as a priority! After all, some have been waiting for a very long time to get their sponsorship applications approved by your hero, without any success! Fortunately circumstances have changed for the better!

Dejdun, thanks for explaining that the factory is in Wisconsin! Who would have thought that the kind of behaviour would happen there? Are conditions in a downward spiral brought on by desperation? People sleep under bridges and whole families in vans…OMG!

I hope the Fed Gov’t insists on sex education for the male Syrian refugees. I’ve read in numerous publications, that the Danes have had to do this because of too many rape incidents. Norway had to to same thing in 2011. They don’t see no as meaning no.

UNBC still has not published any information on how many are joining the carbon trial to the Paris climate party. Wonder how I can get taxpayer funds for a Party in Paris. Wonder if anyone from the city is going?

On that note still cannot find how much the heavily taxpayer funded Bear ridge wind generation complex actually generates compared to name plate. Are they hiding something? Wonder what the unit cost of power from that money sink is compared to hydro electric.

Serg– You missed my point, Family and womans rights and safety issues. Men need women and these men have different values.

I see Paul Bernardo’s book is causing quite a stir. Lots of people calling for a boycott of Amazon until it’s pulled. I have a better suggestion. Don’t buy it if you don’t want to support that whack job. Boycotting Amazon over it is wrong, do you really want Amazon telling you who’s works you can or cannot read? I don’t.

This, for me was a little hard to take. These people are not refugees, they are economic opportunists. I like her suggestion though, She should follow it.

Have a look.

Hi folks. Nice day we’re having eh? I would like to say that now that we’re coming into winter driving conditions please be considerate towards your fellow motorists. When passing slower vehicles try to give them lots of space and don’t pull back into the right lane right away. If possible try to pull back in further down the road in order to avoid spraying the other vehicle with rocks and road grime. It might just save a windshield or two.

Might want to hold off on that Paris trip Seamutt. CBC reporting 26 dead in multiple attacks. Be interesting to see who the discontented citizens are that have resorted to deadly violence to make their point. Hope we don’t have anyone like that coming to Canada.

Ya wonder if the uni will issue flack jackets to those on the carbon junket.

What great weather we are having so far, haven’t had to shovel, everyone seems happier since the election, even my clothes seem cleaner after being washed ….. Thanks Justin ;)

How coincidental can you get…..Justin orders our F-18’s home the same day as ISIL launches several terror attacks in Paris….

Justin abandons our allies the same day that ISIL launches several terror attacks in Paris…

I wonder if Justin still thinks ISIL members are simply “misunderstood” and does he still plan to sit down and talk with them to discover the real “roots” of terrorism..maybe over a cup of tea?

PrinceGeorge, how exactly am I splitting hairs?

First of all, I never wrote the article, I simply posted the information for all to see!

Secondly, Justin and Co. campaigned on a promise to fast track 25,000 “Government sponsored” Syrian refugees by year end. Now, they are amending this promise to suggest that the 25,000 sponsored refugees will be a mix of Government AND privately sponsored refugees!

They campaigned on 25,000 GOVERNMENT SPONSORED refugees, not a mix of GOVERNMENT AND privately sponsored refugees!

The writer of the article claims that the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau is being accused of breaking one of its key election promises!

PrinceGeorge, are you saying that you intend to defend Justin and Co. regardless and in spite of what they do or don’t do?

Is that what you intend to do, PrinceGeorge??

P Val, even my clothes seem cleaner after being washed?

Thankfully you’re not using St. Lawrence River water to wash your clothes! Currently, the St. Lawrence River water is doing a pretty Shi**y job of washing clothes, in fact some might argue a crappy job ;-)!

Wonder what the additional cost of fast tracking will be. Didn’t take long for Justin to dive into the taxpayer piggy bank. Wonder if he cannon balled?

At least all the involved government workers will have nice fat overtime checks for xmas.

Justin amazing.

Terrorist attacks in Paris. We can expect them here to. Lets bring in millions of refugees and get it over and done with.

Notsofast.. So you really think that us keeping a few F-18 back over there would have stopped the attacks in Paris.. Not bloody likely.. But nice try..

Hart guy..yeah you are right, Victoria been pumping in raw sewage for decades…..makes montreals dumping a minor event..but it’s still disgusting.

I’m installing HID head lights, HID fog lights LED backup lights and a 40 inch LED light bar on my pickup this week end. Cops and govt don’t care so why not. I can forget to turn mine off just like the rest of the dicks out there. Log trucks are the worst offenders. I’ll be cruising the hwy’s after midnight on my days off for a little “payback”.

That’s called common sense. Not much of that left around these days. Many people couldn’t give a rats behind about others.

The Middle East only knows war over religion, that’s how it’s been for many decades and it won’t change..that’s all they know. In my 50+ years on this planet I never remember that area being in peace for more than a week. Doesn’t matter what Canada does, it will continue.. We get in a uproar when someone wants to wear a niqab taking their citizenship oath.. Just think if they invaded us and started telling us how to live.. It’s not worth one Canadian life to be over there.

These Syrian refugees are being put at the front of the line ahead of others that have been trying to become Canadians for years and our own homeless people.

Exactly P Val.

From Notsofast:

That was absolutely hilawious!
When I read about Muslims in France, Great Britain and see the mistakes they made allowing them to use Sharia Law in their enclaves. And, I say allowing as opposed to turning a liberal “blind eye” toward, I fear the same will happen here.
When I read about these women who have to wear coverings where the only thing showing is their eyes, and a Senior Muslim cleric in the States saying this practice has absolutely nothing to do with religion, it has to do with the man demanding this of their wives, it makes me sick to think they will continue to treat their women the same here in Canada. Sickening.
I treat all women and men with unconditional respect, but why aren’t our muslim church leaders speaking out?

Eaglone it was not the Dinosaur company but the local company hired to take care of hiring local workers that caused the problem.

HG:”Is that what you intend to do, PrinceGeorge??” Like they say, zimmer down a bit! Wait and see!

Its not surprising that the Liberals have changed their tune. Harper talked about 12000 refugee’s by 2018, and of course Trudeau had to one up him, so he said his Government would bring in 25000 refugee’s by the end of the year.

They are now changing their tune and saying they meant Government sponsored and private sponsored for the 25000 which of course is complete BS.

The statement of getting 25000 Government sponsored refugee’s here by the end of the year, was and is a stupid statement, and they will not meet this deadline.

So the inane statement was made, and then they tried to put something in place to make it happen and reality started to set in. Had they just tried to get in 25000 refugee’s as soon as possible without a deadline, they would have been much further ahead. As it now stands they will miss the deadline, and will cost taxpayers somewhere in the area of an additional $250 Million dollars.

All this because Justin cant keep his trap shut. This guy is a loose cannon, and the problem is, he is just as much a green horn, as most of his cabinet, and those who are not, are all **also rans** from days gone by.

This Government could prove to be a total failure, if they don’t start to get their s..t together.

I can still see them on google maps.

I see that vote for Zimmer sign that was posted blocking the entrance to the truck runaway lane on Northwood Pulpmill Rd has simply just been knocked over and left there.

Dumbfounded, did you take a moment to phone Bob’s office to let them know about a sign that was obviously missed after the election! Might have something to do with the fact that it’s knocked over and perhaps not very visible anymore?

Or, did you just leave it and not phone anyone so that you would have something to complain about?

Want to put PG on the Canadian map world wide and get some culture injected into PG ? Join icorn.org . Be first or follow .

Go pick it up big mouth or are you just going to sit at your keyboard being a D&%k?

Any credible politician would have people working on their campaigns that would have election sign posting locations pinpointed on a map to insure their removal after fooling their followers. I see there are no NDP or Liberal election signs still posted this far beyond the election wise guy, oops I mean hart guy.

How does it feel to be in the minority politically and socially?

Yah those libs and NDP guys are way too efficient . I was hoping to find a Tracy sign for my man cave but I couldn’t find a single one . I guess I’ll have to wait till 2019 . I bet none of you guys would give one up .

Actually Ataloss, there was a Tracy sign that had been left behind on Foothills, perhaps just for you!

A few weeks ago, somebody on this site mentioned that Conservative signs hadn’t been removed from Foothills yet. I replied that I had just travelled Foothills and there wasn’t a Conservative sign to be seen! However, I also mentioned that the only sign that I had seen that had yet to be removed was one of Tracy’s!

Tracy’s sign was removed very shortly thereafter!

I suspect that Bob’s sign on Northwoods Pulp Road will also be removed as soon as Bob’s office is made aware of it!

No worries HG , I can wait . 2019 ain’t that far away . She’s going to smoke Doh and his chances for a lifetime pension for doing SFA his riding .

Ataloss, you don’t even live here in PG, or do you?

If you don’t even live in this community, why are you so obsessed with what we do or don’t do here?

I’m just “dumbfounded ” why any retard would want to blind a guy operating a logging truck with all his brightness? Good chance he might get flattened if poor ol truck driver can’t see. Vindictive little man with nothing better to do.

Wow Dumbfounded, you’re certainly “touchy” tonight! Having some issues, are you??

yes Axman I noticed after posting they can be seen in terrain view but no longer in satellite view which I was commenting on. Same for you?
