Prince George, B.C. – YMCA Peace Week kicks off with a free event at the Y in Prince George today.

Stephanie Mikalishen, coordinator of philanthropy development and camp, says Yoga for Peace will run from 11:30 until 1:00.

“It’s a Canada wide national event. We’re inviting everyone in the community to come together and celebrate a peaceful and happy community by practicing yoga.”

She says yoga is a great way to practice positive physical and mental health.

“Physical benefits of course being flexibility which includes letting your muscles stretch and recover. The other piece is mental well being, it’s really great stress relief.”

Mikalishen encourages people of all ages to attend, including kids.

“Yoga is for all ages.I know there’s a lot of children in yoga classes in Prince George so it’s a great habit to start,” she says.

“Getting children to take the time to slow down from our busy lives and let their muscles recover and their minds rejuvenate.”
