Need a Job? YMCA Launches Employment Program
Prince George, B.C. – The YMCA of Northern BC has launched a new program designed to help young people find jobs in Prince George’s competitive job market.
YMCA Youth Works will be located in the YAP building (1148 7th Ave) and offer a three week program with the possibility of a nine week job placement to assist people between the ages of 15 and 29.
“They can participate in learning about interview skills, networking with potential employers, resume writing skills,” says director of association services Cheryl Wallace.
“They will also have the opportunity to do some paid work experience and take some short-term certification courses such as First Aid, Serving it Right, and FoodSafe.”
She says YMCA Youth Works will also match employers who have projected employee shortages in their industry with job seekers seeking experience in their field.
“For select participants, wage support will be available to their employers during job placement in order to help offset the costs of hiring and training,” says Wallace.
“In addition, YMCA Youth Works will also partner with employers in Prince George who reflect the growing sectors of healthcare, trades and business – to provide participants with career oriented jobs and mentor prospects that will benefit them long term.”
She says they are currently taking intakes in preparation for the start of the program in January.
Wallace asks anyone interested in participating to either call herself at 250-562-9309 ext 213 or Debra Hennig at 250-565-5428.
