Cold Weather Puts a Chill on Kettle Campaign
Prince George , B.C. – Salvation Army’s annual Kettle campaign is feeling the impact of the chilly weather.
Although the bells keep jingling, the donations to the Kettle’s have slowed somewhat ” I think when it’s cold, people just don’t want to head out” says Salvation Army Business Manager Bill Glasgow.
He says having more volunteers out manning the kettles would be a plus, and people can sign up by calling 250-596 HOPE (4673). The goal for the Kettle campaign is $50 thousand dollars. “I know Prince George will come through for us, in the past, we see donations pick up as we get closer to the December 24th deadline.”
The Tree of Lights campaign also has a $50 thousand dollar goal, and it is struggling. With less than $6,000 donated so far, there is still a long way to go. “We looked long and hard at the Tree of Lights and we are trying to make it better. So in addition to having the breakfast kick off, we are holding some special events, like this Sunday’s Family event at the Black Spruce Farm.”
The family event is set from noon till 4 on Sunday. Admission is through purchase of a Tree of Lights Bulb for $5.00. “People can buy a special event bulb at the Coast Inn of the North in advance” says Glasgow, “But they have to make sure they are asking for a special event bulb because they will then get a ticket to the Black Spruce Farm event.” Black Spruce Farm is at 7550- Bendixon Road in Pineview.
All of the dollars raised through the Christmas campaigns stays in Prince George to fund the Salvation Army’s programs.
