Prince George, B.C. – Today’s your last chance to check out the 22nd annual Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation’s Festival of Trees at the Civic Centre.

Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m. (the Teddy Bear Breakfast, already sold-out, starts at 8:30).

“It’s been an incredible Festival of Trees this year,” says coordinator Shirli-Gene Sadowick.

“We’re loving the lumber-jack theme with all the wood and the benches and the trees and the people are really enjoying it this year. They’re feeling very connected.”

She also notes they’ve exceeded their goal of having 100 trees in honour of the city’s centennial.

“We have 116 trees decorated trees that people brought in, not our display trees but decorated by people. We exceeded expectations.”

Sadowick adds there’s still time to pick up a tree of your own.

“If anyone’s interested in getting an affordable tree there’s lots to be bought and they’re really reasonable so come down and find a tree for your family.”

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and kids or $10 for families. Proceeds of course go to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

“Which then in part buys equipment for the northern region,” she says. “The doctors basically have a wish list. So then the board decides what to get for which hospital or what is needed.”

They have to run this event into December a little bit.

Smithers started one this year.
