It’s the season for…. scammers

Thursday, December 3, 2015 @ 10:51 AM

Prince George, B.C. –  Beware of  folks knocking on your door  and posing as  representatives from Northern Health.

Northern Health has  called on the RCMP to investigate claims of people posing as Northern Health representatives, doing door to door  air quality surveys. The person comes back a short time later and requests access to the person’s house. The person does produce some form of identification saying they’re with Northern Health.   They are not.

Northern Health  doesn’t normally do that kind  of information gathering.  Instead,   there would   be community  events  to gather  input.

If a Northern Health  employee is coming to  your home,  it’s usually  with a pre-booked appointment.

Then there’s the phone and internet  scammers  who  have been impersonating Northern Health employees to try and obtain personal information.

Northern Health  does not  hire or accept any applications through social media sites, by phone, or by text.

Northern Health does not collect any personal information, including banking details, by phone or text. If you think  you may have been contacted by someone impersonating a Northern Health employee, please call 1-877-905-1155 (toll free) to report the incident. To learn more about scams and how to protect yourself, visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Northern Health would like to remind members of the public to be cautious what information they provide to people, and if you are unsure please contact hello@northernhealth.ca or your local health facility. If you feel that your personal information may be compromised, please contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Just had some guy at my door, with an outfit named Health teck, had picture ID doing this air quality study. He looked familiar in not a good way. Says he gets a buck a card, wanted my name and ph. number. Didn’t get it. Be vigilant folks, tis the season to be scammed.

Good for you Grizz.
Some people are determined or pre-wired to try for an easy way to make money. I’ve always said that if we could harness the energy these people put into nefarious schemes and put it to use on ‘good’ projects, we would all be better off, schemrs included.
