Prince George, B.C. – It was the UHNBC Auxiliary’s holiday celebration, but they presented a special gift to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
That gift was a cheque for $50 thousand dollars to go towards the purchase of a Maldi-Tof Mass Spectrometer.
The equipment will be an important upgrade for the lab at UHNBC. The equipment produces quick, accurate diagnosis of infections. The faster an infection can be identified, the sooner a patient can receive the right treatment.
“We have an incredible partnership with the Auxiliary to UHNBC,” says CEO for Spirit of the North, Judy Neiser. “Their membership believes in making a difference that impacts patient care and positive health outcomes, and this equipment has such a broad reach that it seemed a perfect fit. We are very thankful for their generous contribution.”
“The Auxiliary members are once again overjoyed to help fund badly needed equipment for our hospital,” said Auxiliary to UHNBC President Linda Hohn.
Fundraising for this vital equipment got a major boost at the 22nd Annual Festival of Trees Gala Auction where $122 thousand dollars was raised towards the purchase of the $300 thousand dollar spectrometer.
With more than $170 thousand dollars already raised, the equipment has been ordered. The balance of the cost will be covered by proceeds from the Festival of Trees.
