Prince George, B.C. – It’s the final weekend before Christmas and the volunteers who run and maintain the Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval are offering everyone a gift this holiday season.

Perhaps your Christmas shopping is all done, perhaps you need a break from shopping, or maybe you’d like to take the kids or grandkids out to have some fun.  Whatever the reason the ice oval folks are having a free Holiday Skate from noon until 3pm today at the outdoor oval behind the Kin Centres.

The Prince George oval, which, along with the Joseph F. Dockrill Memorial Rink in Telkwa, made British Columbia Magazine’s list of “10 Awesome Outdoor Skating Rinks”, is in great shape with the recent cold temperatures aiding the top notch work of the Ice Making Crew.

This snow will be gone before Saturday's skate, thanks to the excellent work of the volunteers.

For those taking advantage of today’s skate there’s free hot chocolate to keep the body warm and lots of music.  All that’s asked is that you take your own mug with you to cut down on the waste at the site.

Oh, and if you’ve ever thought of giving speed skating a try there will be selected sizes of speed skates available.
