Prince George, B.C.-In the wake of the sudden retirement of Brian Pepper, SD57 has named an interim Superintendent to fill the role until a new Superintendent is hired.Board of Education Chair Tony Cable has announced Sharon Cairns will take on the duties as Interim Superintendent effective immediately.
“Ms. Cairns has a long history of service to School District No. 57 (Prince George) ” says Cable “and we are pleased that she will continue that service as our Interim Superintendent for the next few months.”
Cable says Cairns has been with the School District for more than 30 years, “She has been a teacher, a vice-principal, a principal and an Assistant Superintendent. The Board looks forward to Ms. Cairns’ leadership as she works with trustees, all staff and our education partners to enhance student learning.”
The Board will begin its province wide search to hire a permanent Superintendent in January.
Pepper submitted his resignation last week, making it effective December 31st, an unusual move considering there is still half of a school year to complete. In his letter of resignation he cited reasons of “health and opportunity” for his departure.
