Operation Red Nose Sets Service Boundaries For New Year’s Eve

Prince George, B.C.- Operation Red Nose will not be providing service to those who live outside City limits after 11:30 p.m. on New Years Eve.
The decision is the result of the low number of teams they will have available for the night. ““Due to only having 29 teams available on Thursday night, we’ve made the decision that we will only go beyond city limits between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.,” said Operation Red Nose spokesperson Andrea Johnson. “From 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. our teams will remain within city limits with some discretion to pick up and drop off clients.”
Last year, Operation Red Nose wasn’t able to reach 40 partyers who had requested rides because they were so backed up, so this time ’round, they want to make sure they can get as many people home safely as possible.
Johnson said today is the last chance new volunteers have to sign up, where they can apply online at www.ornpg.ca, fill it out, print it off and drop it off at the Community Policing office at the RCMP detachment on Victoria St. The RCMP will process any applications that come in at the last minute. Volunteers will be called on Tuesday morning to confirm their roles.
To qualify, volunteers must be 19 years old and have a valid driver’s license. A mandatory Criminal Record Check is part of the application process.
“If more volunteers do come forward and we have more road teams available, then we will make a decision on how far our teams will travel,” said Johnson.
So far after eight nights during the holiday season, Operation Red Nose has provided 850 safe rides home, travelling 24,020 km.

Remember that you don’t have to have a drivers licence to volunteer. There are 3 people working in a team, only 2 need a drivers licence and the 3rd is the “navigator” who does the paperwork and operates the radio telephone. If you can’t make your own team of 3 with friends you will be teamed up with others. I have volunteered a few times with Red Nose, it really is a fun night. All of the money raised from donations goes back into the community.
Sorry, I meant that you don’t need to be a driver to volunteer.
We signed up for New Years Eve, looking forward to it!

That’s odd, Taxi drivers or others needing a chauffeur’s permit for a job, can wait up to two months to get theirs.
well uber this
