Housing Starts Up In P.G. Last Year
Prince George, B.C.- Canada Mortgage and Housing reports housing starts were up in most urban centres in B.C. in 2015, and Prince George was no exception.
Over the past year, Prince George saw 269 housing starts, up from the 158 starts recorded by CMHC in 2014.
There were 169 single family dwelling starts, compared to 133 in the previous year, and 100 multiple family dwelling starts, up from just 25 in 2014.
Across the province, housing starts in urban areas were trending at 30,598 units in December compared to 30,840 units in November.
The trend level of housing starts has hovered just over 30,000 units since mid-2015, a level consistent with an active resale housing market and underlying population and employment growth in the province,” said Carol Frketich, CMHC Regional Economist for BC. “For the year as a whole, housing starts in BC increased compared to 2014 as more single-detached and multiple-family homes got underway. Most centres in the province recorded increased housing starts last year.”
