Province says No to Kinder Morgan
Monday, January 11, 2016 @ 10:17 AM
Victoria, B.C.- Standing firm on its five conditions, the Province says it cannot support the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain expansion project.
In it’s submission to the National Energy Board panel, the province says it will ” continue to evaluate the project based on the company’s ability to meet the five requirements” which are:
- Successful completion of the environmental review process. For the Trans Mountain Expansion project, that would mean a recommendation by the National Energy Board Review Panel that the project proceed;
- World-leading marine oil spill response, prevention and recovery systems for B.C.’s coastline and ocean to manage and mitigate the risks and costs of heavy-oil pipelines and shipments;
- World-leading practices for land oil spill prevention, response and recovery systems to manage and mitigate the risks and costs of heavy-oil pipelines;
- Legal requirements regarding Aboriginal and treaty rights are addressed, and First Nations are provided with the opportunities, information and resources necessary to participate in and benefit from
a heavy-oil project; and - British Columbia receives a fair share of the fiscal and economic benefits of a proposed heavy-oil project that reflect the level, degree and nature of the risk borne by the province, the environment and
taxpayers.
The Province says although requested three times, the company has not provided enough information around its proposed spill prevention and response for the Province to determine if it would use a world leading spills regime.
Because of this the Province is unable to support the project at this time, based on the evidence submitted.

Wow, the BC Liberals are saying No to an oil company! :O
Their kick-back must be too small with the current oil price.
I think one of two things.. Christy is holding out for a bigger piece of the pie..or she is still putting all our eggs in one basket still hoping for LNG to actually start doing something.
Interesting how when the Liberals do exactly as YOU lefties would like, you still have to find a negative in it!
Going back a few years now, in fact prior to our last election this same government laid out the same 5 conditions for the Enbridge Line.
I suppose the right thing to do was what Mr. Dix did during the last election…make his own determination without regard to the process involved….you know…as if he was the Judge the jury and the executioner!
I think Clark is waiting for the Northern Gateway/Enbridge project, as least if it leaks it won’t be anywhere near where she lives.
The National Energy Board will make the recommendation about this pipeline, and then the Trudeau Government will have to make a decision as to whether or not if will go forward.
Pipelines are a Federal Responsibility. Christy is blowing smoke. At the end of the day all she can do it what she did, ie; send a submission to the NEB.
If we had every Province standing in the way of Railways, Pipelines, etc; we would never get anything done. Come to think of it, with the Liberals in power, we will probably not get anything done anyway, except perhaps the long form census.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve read all day – more conspiracy-theory conjecturing from the loopy left that doesn’t understand how our provincial government, or any government, works.
NyteHawwk, I totally agree. Standing in the way with those 5 reasonable conditions is exactly what I want our governments to do! All the company has to do is fulfill the conditions! No conspiracy here, folks!
That’s the stupidest thing I’ve read all day – more conspiracy-theory conjecturing from the loopy left that doesn’t understand how our provincial government, or any government, works.
Because this government is known for their fair public consultation ha-ha.
I’m not even a left-winger – but you clearly don’t have an understanding the way our prov. govnt works.
The liberal government saying not to Kinder Morgan is required. Kinder Morgan a big American company, wants to come in a bully us around and wants it their way or no way. Thus, I think Christie and the gang did the right thing.
Trudeau, wants the west to suffer. His only concern is Ontario and Quebec. We are in a recession in the west, if not already Trudeau will make sure of that.
There is one good thing going for Christie, all see would have to say is, do you want what Alberta has right now with an Orange Government. That is enough to put everyone in alarm stage. Alberta, is crashing and burning.
The stupidest thing I’ve read all day:
Trudeau, wants the west to suffer. His only concern is Ontario and Quebec. We are in a recession in the west, if not already Trudeau will make sure of that.
Are you really that oblivious?
Even the bank of Canada in the December report says it is a pretty gloomy outlook for: western Canada, Central Canada, Eastern Canada, Northern Canada.
They continue with more information the the rest of the entire world is in the same situation. It is called a global recession. It has not been declare a depression yet, because it has only been three (3) consecutive quarters with no growth or negative growth.
Pull your head out of the sand, or your backside as appropriate and realize that it is not any single political party at a provincial level that can significantly impact the global economy.
As to Alberta’s financial crisis: has nothing to do with the party that recently took over from the last decade ruling conservatives. It has to do with the decline in the price of oil that is beyond the control of a paltry little Canadian provincial government.
Hyperbolic much He Spoke ? They’ve got the best gov. for the fossil bust and the U.S. Dollar mega rally . With the trouble in the patch one should be pleasantly surprised that they are below the national average of 7.1 % see. Work.alberta.ca
“Trudeau, wants the west to suffer.”
We deserve a break after ten years of blatant neglect from Harper!
How are we suffering.. Trudeau is in and we have the lowest gas prices.. You need to send him an apology email Loki for being so wrong ;)
Also you shouldn’t be buying any gas then until the price goes back up to Harper prices ;)
PVal you need to read Loki one more time . He was referring to what He Spoke wrote . Did you know that back in 2014 when Alberta was banging on all cylinders there were 22k people directly employed in the fossil sector in Alberta ? That was just less than were employed (23k) in the clean energy sectors in canada . Guess which sector is the employment super power today .
I guess the IPP’s have a bigger kick back.
Dream on Ataloss.
“Trudeau, wants the west to suffer. His only concern is Ontario and Quebec. We are in a recession in the west, if not already Trudeau will make sure of that.”
Talk about having one’s head up a dark smelly place He spoke.
He Spoke says…..”Alberta, is crashing and burning”

Because the price of oil has tanked due to the OPEC countries flooding the market. Nothing to do with the current Alta govt. All of Alta’s eggs are in one oil barrel.
