Prince George, B.C. – It is now confirmed nine people have been taken to hospital with injuries suffered in this morning’s bus crash on Highway 97 north of Hixon .
Three of those taken to hospital are suffering from serious but non life threatening injuries.
(at right, ambulances arrive at the University Hospital of Northern BC )
The Prince George bound Greyhound was towing a trailer when it went off the road shortly before 8 this morning at Ewing Road, near the Woodpecker rest stop.
Emergency personnel responding to the scene included RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and the Highway Rescue teams from Regional Districts ‘D’ and Beaverly.
The Transportation Safety Board and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement units are also on scene to determine the cause of the crash. While not yet official, it is thought speed and possibly mechanical issues are contributing factors to the crash.
Highway 97 continues to be reduced to single lane alternating traffic and is expected to remain so until at least 2:30 this afternoon.

I was not happy to hear the contractor of highway maintenance in that area say this morning on CBC radio that they “had only one incident in that area” and that “the roads couldn’t be bad because there was only one incident. Good god man, that’s like an airline saying they are okay because only one plane crashed that day. I know it’s hard to always say the right thing but this contractor might need to hire a PR person because that wasn’t the right thing to say. I’m pretty sure the people in the hospital aren’t too happy there was “only one incident.”
