Prince George, B.C. – The JDC West team from UNBC is coming home from the annual competition and they are packing some nice hardware.
The team of 50 business students took part in the “Jeux du Commerce West ” competition which, this year, was held in Saskatoon. The competition puts teams of business students from eleven universities up against each other in several competitions.
The UNBC team came first in Marketing, Second place in Finance, First place in Participation and Overall Charity fund raising total .
The team raised $127 thousand dollars.
But even with those ‘wins’, team co-captain Carlie Whitwham says it will be a while before the team is told its overall ranking, and that ranking is very important. “The lowest three teams are eliminated from being able to take part in the competition for the next year” says Whitwham, who adds the team was in jeopardy of losing its participation eligibility in the past. Although she doesn’t want to ‘jinx’ the outcome, Whitwham says she is “pretty confident” the team will come out with a positive ranking.
While the competition is intense, Whitwham says it provides an opportunity to network with 800 top business students. “The other key thing here, is myself and my co-captain Brody Wicki, we spend the entire year after the competition sharing resources with the other captains at the other universities as well as the organizing committee and board of directors for JDC West, so we really work together to ensure all of our teams see success.”
But for now, Carlie Whitwham wants to send out a thank you to their sponsors, especially the Pattison Group for its support for the Marketing team, and the Investors Group which supported the Finance team.
UNBC has been part of the JDC West competition for the past ten years, and its highest overall ranking for a team from UNBC was 4th.

Congrats to UNBC JDC West. Thank you for representing UNBC/Prince George so well on a national stage.
Did the money raised go to the Spirit of the North again or? Just wondering…..
UNBC should hire those students to provide marketing advice to UNBC. I’m sure that they would do a better job than the highly paid executives who are currently working there.
