Jumbotron Approved
Prince George, B.C. – The $390 thousand dollar replacement cost of the video screen components of the score clock at CN Centre has been approved for the 2016 capital plan.
The City is contractually obligated to supply a ‘jumbo tron’ but the clock , with its video component, is used by many user groups . The item was put on hold from being approved for the Capital Plan for 2016 until there was more information available.
The clock was state of the art, when first installed in 2007, but technology has changed, and the equipment was experiencing some issues with lost pixilation, and break downs.
The current cost for a replacement is $390 thousand dollars, and with the Canadian dollar so low against the U.S. buck, there are concerns the $390 will translate into something much higher.
However, another supplier has been identified, so there may be an opportunity to get a better price.

As a cheaper option, as a taxpayer I would really appreciate it if the city could install functioning lightbulbs and ensure the clock at the civic centre is accurate. It’s not that hard, and it isn’t expensive.
That score clock cost a large fortune back in ’07, I remember being astounded at the price of it. Too bad that spending large amounts of dough apparently does not mean it will last even ten years.
I think they over paid.
metalman.
I’m thinking that Jillian will not be a happy camper! $390,000 could have painted a lot of bicycle lanes!
And how many years have we been waiting for artificial turf for the City.Let alone the state that the City has left Masich Stadium. This is ridiculous, why put our athletes at risk because of the horrible condition of the field at Masich. This Stadium caters to several different sports. Why spent 400g’s on just one sport, when they already have a score board that works.I don’t think people realize how many (for example) of our Football players make it to the next level in their sport. Why can’t our city show a little support in this, rather then put our athletes at risk because hockey wants a bigger TV.

Who’s the idiot who signed that contract? Must be nice to be a useless civil servant with zero regard for the tax payer.
axman… my guess (and it is a guess) is that it’s a WHL obligation to have a jumbotron. That’s the only thing that makes sense.

When it comes to the city, making sense is not a high priority.
We seem to spend a lot of money subsidizing hockey in this town. Is it the only sport we have?
SUBSIDIZING HOCKEY ???????
The WHL Cougars hockey club consistently draws between 2500 and 5000 fans to each event.(over 36 games per season) These fans come from all over B.C. Western Canada, the USA and the world. They stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and spend lots of money with our local businesses. This brings great national and international attention to P.G. The economic benefits are priceless. Some people call this a subsidy. I call it “A GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK” We are fortunate to have a WHL franchise in P.G. This is a cash cow for Prince George, support it. “GO COUGARS GO”

Show me some numbers that indicate that the Cougars are bringing in more to the city then they’re sucking out of it. You can’t because it isn’t.
Besides, I said “hockey” and not “Cougars”. The 15 million we were forced to pay for Kin 1 benefited who the most? Hockey players, that’s who.

All those fans must wear green because all I ever see is a sea of green in any photos I see from their games.
