School Board Begins Search for New Superintendent
Prince George, B.C. – The search is on for new leadership in the Prince George School District.
Board chair Tony Cable announced at tonight’s monthly meeting that the Board has engaged Go Futures Human Resources Inc. to conduct an executive search for the positions of superintendent of schools and assistant superintendent of schools.
“We began our work with Go Futures yesterday to recruit two education leaders for this school district,” he said. “That work included developing the candidate selection criteria, identifying important stakeholders, and establishing a search timeline for both positions.”
He says education partners, including CUPE locals 3742 and 4991, the District Parent Advisory Council and other stakeholders, will be involved in discussions for these positions beginning the week of February 29.
The search for superintendent became necessary after Brian Pepper resigned last month.
Sharon Cairns has taken over on an interim basis until Pepper’s replacement is found.

Why on earth is CUPE involved here? The janitor is somehow qualified to pick the next Superintendent?
Good question axman.
CUPE isn’t going to select the superintendent on their own – they’re just going to have input. Getting input from a wide range of people won’t hurt. CUPE members may not be experts on curriculum or teaching methods, but they know a lot about the infrastructure of the school district, its day-to-day operations, problems of staff morale, and so forth. Also, many of the professional staff who are not teachers are CUPE members: librarians, speech pathologists, etc. They may well have something to say.
