IIO called in to Charlie Lake incident
Charlie Lake, B.C. The Independent Investigations Office has arrived on scene in Ft. St. John, to investigate the actions which led to the death of a suspect in a standoff with Police in Charlie Lake.
The IIO has confirmed the suspect died of a gunshot wound, however, it is not clear if he took his own life, or if his death was connected to actions by the officers involved.
The eleven hour incident started as a report of a domestic dispute at a Charlie Lake residence. The incident ended when officers from the RCMP North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) entered the residence late last evening and located a deceased man inside the home. RCMP ERT officers also located a 2 year old child inside the home. The child was not harmed.
Four IIO investigators arrived in Ft. St. John this morning and will advise later today if they believe the man’s death warrants further investigation by their office.
