Tentative Deal Reached in Hotel Dispute
Prince George, B.C. – Mediation efforts between the Coast Hotel and its unionized staff proved successful in Vancouver yesterday.
Unite Here! Local 40 Prince George area steward Margaret Prieston says it led to an agreement on the main sticking points between the sides – namely wages and pension.
“It gave us raises in wages, a raise in pension and held our medical steady with slight increases in some of the benefits. And so we’re very happy with it.”
She says they will be recommending union members approve the deal and says a ratification vote will be held early next week.
Unite Here! represent 85-100 workers at the Coast Inn of the North along with workers at Coast hotels in Nanaimo, Kelowna and Victoria.
The workers include housekeepers, maintenance staff, servers and bartenders.
Prieston says the union has been without a deal since last May.

I thought the same thing. @250News any updates on this? There are rumors from Council that something is happening with Clint Dahl’s failed hotel project but nobody is saying anything…and the site continues to be an eyesore.

Does anyone know whats going on with that hotel downtown???did they go bankrupt? Who’s responsible for that mess now, us taxpayers. All the rebar that’s rusting is going to have to get cut out.

It’s scary actually. The failed hotel project is/was managed by Clint Dahl. It has sat idle for years. Then Clint Dahl cleared a huge swath of trees near Walmart in College Heights. Nothing has happened at that site to date. Most recently, Clint Dahl announced that is building condo’s behind the Commonwealth Health Centre starting in December of 2015. To date, nothing has happened.
I really need a job like Clint Dahl. Apparently hopes and dreams without any real outcomes is a good way to make money!

Perhaps he needs to learn to stop with the premature announcements, and starting builds without having the capital in place.

I heard that Marriott is building the hotel now and it is going ahead.
