Prince George, B.C. – Damage is estimated at more than $100,000 following an early-morning structure fire on South Kelly Street.

Assistant Chief Thad Kennedy says at approximately ten minutes to 2 this morning Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of Kelly Street. A total of 18 firefighters from all four halls were dispatched to the scene after a caller noticed flames coming from the rear of the structure and phoned 9-11.

Several occupants had evacuated before fire crews arrived and there were no injuries to the occupants of the multiple unit residence.  A bus was later brought to the scene to provide shelter and warmth.

A.C. Kennedy says the fire was located at the rear of the structure and near a garage attached to the main building.  The fire extended into the interior of the building and into the roof structure before crews extinguished it.

One witness reported the sound of propane tanks exploding prior to the fire being put out.  Damage is estimated at over 100,000.00 dollars.

Crews remained on scene for approximately 4 hours looking for hot spots and for any fire extension. One Firefighter was taken to hospital for a minor injury.

The fire is undetermined at this time as investigators try to determine the cause.
