Names of Two Missing on Salmon River Released
Prince George, B.C. – Prince George RCMP have released the names of the two men who went missing on the Salmon River near Prince George on March 7th, 2016.
During the late afternoon of March 7th, police responded to a report that two people had gone into the river. 36 year old Salmon Valley resident Ryan Everett Jenkins went into the fast-flowing river while operating a snowmobile. Attempts were made by on-lookers to rescue Jenkins. One of them, 31 year old Prince George resident Brandon Warren Lawrence, ran from shore and without hesitation jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue Jenkins. Moments later, both men were swept under a large portion of ice covering the width of the river.
Emergency Management BC and the Prince George Search & Rescue Society assisted the Prince George RCMP in searching for the two men for approximately 2 ½ days on land and in the air, without success. The search has been postponed with the possibility of starting again if river conditions allow for it.
Police caution that with our unusually warm winter, it is not safe to be out on the ice covering any body of water. Police and Prince George Search & Rescue urge all persons to stay off ice in our area and be cautious around all lakes and rivers.
