Local Wrestler Headed Back to Nationals
Prince George, B.C. – Wrestler Tristina Howse has punched her ticket back to the nationals.
The 17 year old member of the PGSS Polars accomplished the feat after finishing second in the 90 kg weight class at provincials last month.
The Juvenile Canadian Wrestling Championships take place in Calgary April 15-17 and she’ll be gunning for gold after taking the silver medal at last year’s event in Frederiction, New Brunswick.

“Of course, it’s always the goal,” says the grade 11 student. “I think I have a pretty good chance, I’ve been working hard.”
It’s been another stellar year for Howse, who earlier this year won the North Central Zone championship, was named Wrestler of the Year, and was also presented with an Excellence Athletes award by the Prince George Hall of Fame.
She’s accomplished a lot in the sport considering she only took it up three years ago. Howse credits a lot of her success to her coach Cris Monetta.
“Cris is a real big influence on me. He helps a lot, he pushes me to points I never thought I could reach. He’s always there for me when I need him.”
As for her future goals, Howse says she’d like to continue wrestling after she graduates from high school.
“I’m looking to wrestle after high school. I have some (university) scouts looking at me. I’ll take the best offer I can get.”
