SG Addresses Disturbing Video
Prince George, B.C.- Solicitor General and MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie, Mike Morris, says it is difficult for him to comment on a video that was given to a media outlet earlier this week.
The video, take by surveillance camera and aired on Global television, shows Prince George RCMP officers making an arrest. From looking at only the images, there is no audio, the suspect is face down on the ground, and a police service dog is grabbing the suspect’s right arm. Then the dog’s handler hits the suspect with a baton.
“I don’t know any of the details surrounding that ( arrest)” says Morris “But I do know from my experience that when you’re dealing with people who are known to the police, known to have weapons, who haven’t been obeying police commands, it’s a high risk take down and there’s different tactics that police use to increase the level of safety for police officers. So in the event that somebody has a weapon they try to mitigate those situations as much as possible.”
MLA Morris, who had been a Superintendent of North District, says the video alone doesn’t tell the whole story “For somebody looking at that video, they have to understand the whole complexity of the situation before they pass judgement.”
Editor’s note:
Story has been corrected to reflect that Morris was a Superintendent, not Chief Superintendent

ROTFLMAO…M. Morris…ex-cop…He would know what I mean…hehe!
I don’t thing enought force is used on those pos criminals beat there a$$
Wait till you are on the receiving end one day…..square head…
Dear Civil Liberties Association (CLA), please find something or someone else to focus your attention on. Do any of the people associated with the CLA have any idea what it takes to be a police officer? I bet if you looked at the criminal records of these two thieves they would be pages long. If you do the crime, then you deserve what you get if you get caught. Simple. Most of us in society know that if we behave badly there are repercussions. What a waste of police time.
The frustration I have with CLA coming out and making comments or giving opinions is that a good lawyer will wait until he/she has all the facts presented. CLA doesn’t do that. They have the tendency to have a knee jerk reaction, and most times that knee ends up in their face. I guess CLA needs lawyers, but why do they always have to hire from the bottom of the barrel.
There are a lot of facts that this story can not yet produce due to ongoing investigation, but, had these fools not stolen the truck, perhaps they would not be in the position they find themselves in today.
Costs all of us money because I have no doubt legal aid is paying.
Of course the video doesn’t tell the whole story , that is the standard police response. As well as the complexity of the situation, another standard response. A normal person could watch the video over and over and still ask why it happened that way. The police dog is not an intervention tool … seems however in this case it is.
Rest assured, nothing will happen , the dog handler will get to continue on about his job doing the same as always.
Also Mr Morris was a superintendant when he left the police force not a chief superintendant. Just pointing that out for correction and clarity sake
So, you firmly believe that there was excessive force used here? You believe that the poor, misunderstood criminal from a broken home whom the cops have dealt with repeatedly in the past was harshly treated?
If he had gotten away, and some bystander got mowed down, you’d be critisizing the cops for not doing their job! As it is, your hard-done-by, woe is me lowlife got some scratches and bruises. Nobody gave him 6 warning shots to the back of the head or broke his arms and legs. Were is the issue here?
Yes I do …did you watch the video, or just comment before watching
*superintendent
First off, this was reported as an auto theft. The video does not show the events leading up to the takedown.
The Global News showed the perp’s name. Pretty certain I have seen that name a few times before in the Citizen’s court report.
RCMP need to protect: themselves, the public and the Charter rights. This guy got roughed up a little. It is probably the most justice that he will see for his crime. Courts will undoubtedly let him off easy.
Without knowing the full events, who do you choose to side with… law enforcement or the repeat offender?
In my opinion: RCMP got their man, no guns or taser used. No INNOCENT people appear to have been hurt. Some wannabe lowlife got a rough takedown. The Mounties did their job! Criminal is now crying because he got put down hard. Boo Hoo, change your life and this wont happen!
Law enforcement have a tough job, one that many could not do. If they need to get tough with criminals, thats OK with me.
Once he is on the ground one does not want him to have a free arm to reach for a concealed weapon, so his arms must be pinned down as fast as possible. The officers have a right to expect to come home alive. If those who squawk can do it better, just join the force! Job well done!
not according to the BC Civil Liberties they don’t….
they want the police to say in a nice voice…” please stop” and don’t yell after all we can’t emotionally scare the poor babies.and when they don’t stop or resist let the bad guy go after all it isn’t the bad guys fault they are bad guys is is their mommy or someone else.
They should have let the owner of the stolen truck help out a bit.
All the Bad Appleholes get sent here…..did you know that….
Ya, they get put up in luxury suites at PGRCC. These “bad appleholes” you refer to are criminals, thugs and lowlifes. Criminals now have more rights than law abiding, tax paying citizens. I think I now see what side of the fence you come from.
Go back to hittin the bong, fencing stolen goods and hatin the fuzz.
The tax paying people of Prince George have had enough of these lowlifes set free by some sympathetic judge; these lowlifes don’t care about your property or your life. Some ones truck was stolen and if it was your truck that they stole you would be dam mad too. It’s about time these lowlifes got what they deserve. So all you bleeding hearts out there remember had they run over someone you know Mother farther sibling etc., you would be asking why the RCMP did not stop them in time.
You have insurance for a reason. So it’s OK for police to use excessive force to chase icbcs Money?
The issue is not whether they’re scumbags. The issue is whether the cops get to be judge, jury and executioner. Our law doesn’t work that way. Remember Greg Matter’s death. No fingerprints on his brand new hatchet after he was shot in the back. A trained soldier apparently spooked by a helicopter runs into his house and emerges to attack cops with a hatchet…..
You really want these guys to believe they’re allowed to do this? Wait till they come for you.
I sure am glad you are a top notch CSI and could have pulled prints off that handle. Shot in the side towards the back – they didn’t have him surrounded but were in front and to the side of him. Maybe read the story again, he didn’t emerge with a hatchet but came out “unarmed” and only pulled the hatchet out when close to the officers while “turning himself in”. At least get the facts of the story correct if you are going to be a critic. They cant get prints off a sheet of broken glass from a break in that is “too dusty” how are they going to get one off a wood or rubber grip? Think man before you go hook line and sinker into conspiracy theories.
Apoliticalgeek … exactly. Why do they get to break laws enforcing laws?
Adreneline is not an excuse.
Watchdog actually the taser would have been less injury than dog attack. Perhaps you aren’t aware of that when you suggested that no taster was used.
