Prince George, B.C. – Once again,   Council for the City of Prince George   has ordered  the demolition  of a stgructure deemed dangerous.

This time,  the  property is located in the Hart at on Richet Street.

Council has approved an order that the property owner  demolish the building  at 3907 Richet and remove all debris.  The order does not  apply to a garage that’s on the site.

It is not the first time Council   has made such an order.   Most recently it  ordered the clean up of the Lombardy Trailer Park,  including the demolition of several mobile homes.  Council also ordered the demolition of a building  on George Street and the demolition and  site remediation on another George Street  address.

“The message has been sent”  says Mayor Lyn Hall  who says the City is getting calls from  neighbourhoods  and those who  attended the neighbourhood   events last October, People are asking, ‘can you do something  wioth this, something with that,”  it’s a deterrent   to people to move into the neighbourhood if you’ve got  this  structure beside your home and you want to sell your house,    and it’s dangerous.”

Mayor Hall  adds “It doesn’t matter if its a building like this, if it’s a trailer, or a home,  a business downtown, we’re looking” says Mayor Lyn Hall “We want to tidy  some of these hazards up.”

Councillor Brian Skakun says he hopes  these types of orders  will send a message to some of the other property owners that the City’s not going to  fool around anymore “Clean up your act, or we’re going to clean it up for you and bill it to you.”

The property owners  will be notified to remove the  building by April 25th, and that they have  until April 8th to appeal that decision.  If the owner fails to meet the deadline for demolition,  the City will do the work  and add the costs to the property owners tax bill.

Bylaw services Manager  Fred Crittendon  says  this isn’t the last of the buildings in the community that are  under the microscope ” I can assure Council there are a number of other properties on our list  and we are going through methodically and making sure they are moving forward in the right direction as well.”
