Long Weekend Driving Reminder
Prince George, B.C.- A long weekend is approaching and that means many will be hitting the highways to spend time with friends and family. Once again, drivers are reminded to take their time, and plan for the trip.
On average, there are 130 crashes injuring 17 people in the North Central region of B.C. every Easter long weekend.
Once again, police will be out in full force watching for distracted drivers as that month long campaign continues. In 2014, ( the most recent year for which statistics are available) 66 people died, another 630 seriously injured in crashes where distracted driving was a contributing factor.
While spring officially arrived last Saturday, road conditions can change at any time, the snowfall in Prince George yesterday is a prime example of how quickly the weather can turn.
The ministry of transportation and infrastructure reminds motorists to check DriveBC.ca before getting behind the wheel for the latest on road conditions, weather, incidents, and special events, such as construction.
Road conditions can also be accessed toll free at 1-800-550-4997.
