Cutbanks Focus of Fundraising Event

Prince George, B.C.- The Cutbanks are about to be the centre of attention once again as a special fundraising event has been set for April 23rd.The Cutbanks used to be the site of the summer “Sandblast” which saw folks strap on skis and make their way down the slope. That event ended when a couple tried to make the trip riding on a couch which flipped on its way down.
Now, the event will see folks collecting pledges on their ability to make it up the steep incline. It’s called “The Climb for Cancer” and all dollars raised will benefit the Kordyban Lodge.
The event has been organized in conjunction with Northern Lights Estate Winery on PG Pulpmill Road. “We’ve been looking for something we could do with the Cutbanks, that would put us back on the map in Prince George” says Northern Lights Estate Winery’s Pat Bell.
Bell says the event is meant to “Take a venue that was iconic in Prince George and turn it into something truly productive and raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.”
The Northern Lights Estate Winery will have entertainment and events at its amphi-theatre and in the orchard for individuals or teams who have registered for the “Climb”. Bell says he made the climb in 10 minutes and 14 seconds, “It’s a good work out, it’s fun and it’s a spectacular opportunity when you get to the top to take a look back down. It’s not the Grouse Grind, but I think it could become the Grouse Grind for Prince George.”

The city needs to start enforcing the no parking/stopping area along there. People are parking and wandering along both sides of the road oblivious to the commercial traffic travelling along there. Won’t be long and someone is going to be killed. That goes for the front of the winery also.
“The city needs to start enforcing” you can finish the sentence up with pretty much every by-law the city has. The city doesn’t enforce anything unless someone nags them to do it. Cars regularly park partly on the sidewalks in College Heights – have been for years, I can’t believe by-law hasn’t noticed yet.
About the only thing that our Bylaw officers notice is coffee time. Tim’s at 15th and Ospika used to be the regular spot for them to gather at. Not sure if they still meet there everyday, but if they are, you could probably catch them there as coffee time for them was usually something in the 30 to 45 minute range!
This will be a great event and I hope it continues. Thanks to Pat Bell and Jana Peters for getting it going.
Very imaginative fund-raising idea, promoting exercise and healthiness while promoting a charity. My only concern is that with all the usage of the cutbanks now, is someone making sure that they are not being damaged from all the activity?
