Crews Make Progress on Nazko Fire

Saturday, April 9, 2016 @ 5:52 PM

Williams Lake, B.C. – The B.C. Wildfire Service says the wildfire burning about five kilometres northwest of Nazko is now 30 % contained following firefighting efforts today.

Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcot says previously the fire was estimated to be 1,000 hectares in size, but today more accurate mapping reduced that to 300 hectares. The Wildfire Service currently has 45 firefighters on site working to contain the fire, with 20 more en route. As well one helicopter, seven bulldozers and one water truck have been employed to fight the fire. Growth on the fire Saturday was minimal as weather conditions were favourable and winds were calm. Turcot says if favourable conditions persist, the fire is expected to be fully contained at 300 hectares by Monday.

Did the crews come from Mexico or Alberta? Oh, ya. Guess it’s too early for them to say they can’t find any unemployed and qualified people locally. Remember when everyone was qualified to fight forest fires? If you were available you were welcome. Not now, though. Gotta be some sorta superstar and apply in the middle of winter before they will consider you. What a bunch of BS.

The 60’s was a Craaaaazzzyyy times eh middle path !
