Size of Nazko Wildfire Revised Downward

Saturday, April 9, 2016 @ 10:43 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The B.C. Wildfire Service has now issued a revision to its earlier estimates on the size of the wildfire burning five kilometres northwest of Nazko.

Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcot says officials have been able to get a much clearer view of the fire boundaries and it is now pegged at 300 hectares in size.  First reports at 7 Friday night put the wildfire at 1000 hectares and that was increased to 1200 hectares at mid-morning today.  However Turcot says those estimates were made with a heavy smoke cover over the area of the wildfire.

Conditions have cleared substantially today.  Seventy-five firefighters, two helicopters and ten pieces of heavy equipment had been dispatched to fight the fire.  The cause of the outbreak is still under investigation.
