Nazko Wildfire Grows to 1200 Hectares
Prince George, B.C. – The first wildfire of significant size in B.C. this year continues to burn about 90 kilometres west of Quesnel.
B.C. Wildfire Service Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcot says the fire, burning five kilometres northwest of Nazko, was discovered at about 2 pm Friday. It is now estimated at 1200 hectares, up from 1000 hectares reported at 7 pm Friday. Turcot stresses that the size is just an estimate. He says heavy smoke is making a more definite determination difficult at this point.
The Wildfire Service spokesman says 75 firefighters, two helicopters and ten pieces of heavy equipment are fighting the uncontained fire today. Turcot adds “we’re actively monitoring the situation and if more resources become required we will certainly bring them in.”
He says it was windy at times on Friday and that helped cause the quick growth of the fire. “Weather conditions are a bit more favourable today and there is less wind activity, which should help with our fire suppression efforts.”
Turcot say no structures are currently threatened. The cause of the fire is not known and remains under investigation.

Lets hit this with every thing we have, not like last years Bobtail fire, where are Government left water helicopters at the airport sit the entire time and told the owner they were not needed.
I wonder if Ms Clark will make another appearance to “confirm” that there really is a fire.
She did that twice last year…I guess she doesn’t believe what people tell her.
