Zimmer Presents Pro-LNG Petition

Thursday, April 14, 2016 @ 1:01 PM

Ottawa, ON – Bob Zimmer reiterated his enthusiastic support for LNG development in B.C. today.

The Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies Conservative MP presented a pro-LNG petition in the House of Commons signed by over 850 northern, B.C. residents.

The petition calls on the Liberal government to get moving on approving the construction and operation of LNG plants and the construction of natural gas pipelines required to supply these LNG plants with natural gas.

“It was a petition that was exchanged at the LNG rally in Fort St. John a number of weeks ago,” says Zimmer. “I would say it’s just the tip of the iceberg for support. I know there’s another E-petition going right now just started by David McDougall that I supported and many other letters have been sent to the Prime Minister and cabinet.”

He says the government could get the ball rolling by approving the Pacific NorthWest LNG project in Prince Rupert.

“We’re waiting for that. I think there was enough information to make that decision some time ago, but as most people know they’ve done the 90 day extension to further study it.

“We just want a decision as soon as possible, we know proponents can’t wait forever and neither can our people that need jobs today.”

Wahoo, about someone stand up and say, yes we want development, we want good paying jobs, yes we want a tax base for our province.

Thanks

The cons that were kicked out on their rearends sure had a lot to say about it too hey.

Three reasons to automatically ignore a post on this website, or any other.

      1. Someone used the term ‘con’ – ‘get it? Con instead of conservative because the conservatives are a bunch of con-men. Get it??’

      2. Someone uses the term ‘sheeple’ – ‘get it? Sheeple instead of people because the people are acting like sheep. Get it??’

      3. Someone uses the term ‘liebral’ – ‘Get it? Liebral instead of liberal because the liberal party lies a lot. Get it??’

To all the enlisted men and women of the Army of No (dedicated like Luddites to the opposition of every industrial project and industrial sector in this province), this isn’t about you and your average, sad little life in the trailer parks of Prince George. It’s about changing the world’s energy balance from relatively dirty coal-fired generating stations to relatively clean gas-fired generating stations.

Anyone that thinks the planet can immediately wean itself off of fossil fuels is either uneducated, or stupid, which are two completely different things.

The LNG industry on the planet (not just in BC) is a 50 to 100 year play, minimum.

7.2 billion people and counting – just because Dr. Justin Trudeau (High School Drama Teacher) and the Leap Manifesto whackos of the federal NDP think you can create useable energy out of pixy farts doesn’t make it true.

Pick up a university (or preferably) post-graduate textbook on thermodynamics and understand for yourself, if you can.

Not likely to get much of a tax base from an LNG Plant located in Port Edward, BC. or any other out of the way place.

We already lost any revenue we would make in taxes by giving these LNG proponents big tax breaks on natural gas.

As for jobs, well who knows. We could do a lot of infrastructure spending and create jobs right away. Giving away our resources to get short term jobs is rather short sighted.

We came into the LNG game a day late and a dollar short, and we will be very lucky if we get one or two plants in the next 20 years.

Took Australia 7 years until their first LNG shipment. Its a commodity, commodities go up and down and we should be ready for the next big upswing.

    But….it bought a few votes….well, quite a few votes…..

I agree with Palopu, the International oil and gas company executives put Christy Clark over a barrel and it is the people of BC who are getting the shaft as far as LNG revenues, she is virtually giving our LNG resources away.

There are three things that determine the value of an oil and gas company:
1. its reserves in the ground;
2. its level of production, and;
3. commodity price at the time of assessment.

Countries the world over are cutting back on their use of fossil fuels to meet their carbon emission reduction targets. Oil and Gas companies know they have a limited amount of time to pumping as much of it out of the ground before demand really tanks. In their race to get it out of the ground to sell it at some kind of value, they have created an over-supply of oil and gas, so what happens when supply exceeds demand by a huge amount? Yup the price (value) of the commodity plummets. This is what is happening in today’s oil and gas sector world-wide.

When commodity prices are at an all-time low, and production levels are at an all-time high, why would any Petroleum CEO want to invest BILLONS of dollars expanding production? The answer is only if those companies received SIGNIFICANT tax and royalty breaks from the countries and provinces they would operate in, and that is exactly what is happening here in BC.

Yup, BC LNG, the biggest make work project in the world, no profits to be made, NOT in any way economically viable, but hey, Christy gets to create jobs at a massive loss in potential revenue for BC.

Jgalt read and weep. Just where do you get your information or do you just make it up as you go like Ataloss?

Oh by the way there is no science showing how much mans contribution to a trace gas in the atmosphere affects climate if any at all. Heck they haven’t even figured out the natural part which is 97% larger than anthropogenic.

Its Saudi Arabia pushing the volume of oil trying to destroy the completion, try to keep up.

Would you buy BP stock on that report of theirs ? If you were BP what would you tell your share holders that are jumping out as fast as they can ? By 2035 they’ll all be dead and it won’t matter to them how big a lie they told .

You can stop selling even when the car lot closes eh ?

There is science out there Seamutt. You just choose to ignore it because it doesn’t fit with you tired, obsessive narrative that we are not affecting this planet.

Even if someone did provide a link to a site that presented evidence, your closed loop mind would go into automatic denial of it’s truthfulness. That is why there is no point in providing links to you. The only way you would ever be convinced is when you sre staring out at your new beachfront property on the Hart. Even then you would just tell yourself that it was completely the result of natural forces.

850 out of 36 million . What an underachiever . Geez ! Seriously ! How would that rate as a rugby score?

The profits (which are taxable in Canada) if any from LNG projects or any other large scale development in BC accrue to the investors. The ‘tax breaks’ offered to Petronas mostly apply to the capital cost of their infrastructure. However, sales tax, property taxes and income taxes payable to BC on these installs are massive. Some of the badly uninformed on here forget that these Asian investors tend to look at 100 year timelines on their returns and they don’t give a rats ass about short term pain because they are in it for the long haul. Which is much to our collective benefit.
BC only loses if we don’t actively promote long term resource extraction because that’s all we have to generate funds for health care and education particularly in the north.

That’s because we have “visionaries” like you, who think all we can do up here is cut trees and dig holes.

What a joke..does he not realize the price drop..or the uncertainty of its future.. Yes let’s invest in a huge gamble. All 20 proposals are on hold for BC.. But a petition with 850 signatures will change all that.. This guy is an embarrasement.

The thing that amazes me is some people actually believe what Christy is spewing out of her mouth. The LNG was nothing more than a ploy to get elected and she is still using the same ploy to get elected again.IMO she would give the province away to fulfill her dream.

Because…I’m Bob Zimmer. After DOHerty’s tears yesterday, I was compelled to get my face in the news today…..

Aw come on ! At least Todd is soft in the heart . ….. The jokes just write themselves eh?

Wow. A whole 850 signatures. Probably his entire Facebook friends list.
