Hydro Crews Make More Progress

Prince George, B.C. – BC Hydro crews have been working around the clock to restore power for northern residents.

“We’ve made a great amount of progress over the last couple of days since the windstorm first hit,” says spokesperson Bob Gammer. “We saw outages peak at around 6,400 customers in various communities across the North and right now we’re down to about 350 customers out.”

He says the bulk of those are in the Fort St. John area with about 300 and change. Aside from that, Burns Lake has about 12 customers out.

“And that’s pretty much it. We’ve cleared up the outages in Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Chetwynd and Hudson’s Hope.”

Gammer says crews in Fort St. John are mainly dealing with broken poles, burnt poles, andburnt wire.

He warns people who do see wire down to stay away and call BC Hydro right away (1-888-769-3766).

“Members of the public should assume that downed power lines are still live and stay back at least 10 metres.”
