Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Cycling Club is busy recruiting new members.

Memberships cost $25 and spokesperson Josh Staub says they’d like to boost their numbers from around 200 to over 250 this year.

“Every year we like to get the word out, try to beef up our membership. You know the numbers go a long way for helping us get grants.”

He says past grants have helped the club secure valued community assets like the Pidherny Bike Trails.

“People appreciate the trails but they don’t realize the amount of hours and hard work the volunteers put in to make those things happen.

“So you know if you’re a cyclist and you utilize those trails, you kind of owe it to those people to show your support and give them that little bit of money and your name on a piece of paper that helps us get grants for the future.”

Speaking of the future, Staub says the club has another busy year planned starting with the Rustchucker race on May 8th.

He says another popular program is the PG Learn to Ride starting May 10th.

“We teach kids the basics of safety, etiquette on trails, how to ride.”

Then there’s Bike to Work week May 30th to June 5th which you can register for at www.biketowork.ca.
