Mt. Polley Production Level Boosted
Likely, BC – The Mount Polley Mine has been given approval to increase the amount of ore it can extract.
The restricted operation permits for Mount Polley have been amended to allow for the extraction of an additional one million tonnes of ore, boosting the mine’s allowable production level from 4 million tonnes to 5 million tonnes.
The amendment means Mount Polley can continue operations while its application to return to full production is being reviewed. A final decision on that application is expected sometime this summer.
Mount Polley will continue to use the Springer Pit , an existing open pit on the mine site, to manage tailings.
Construction of supports around the main tailings pond which failed in August of 2014, continues.

Yippee, we are heading in that direction again, increased production results in increased effluent level in the tailings pond. Lets just sit back and wait for round number 2.
JGalt, so it’s no mines, no oil and gas industry, no forestry industry, no, no, no, is it?
I believe that we all need to be more responsible in our extraction and use of our natural resources, but we all rely on the resource industry for our jobs, incomes and the taxes that help pay for our social programs and safety nts!
What did you say you did for a living? Oh wait, you didn’t!
Neither did Peeps! Hmmmmm?
Yes hart guy that what Jgalt said..oh wait NO it’s not.. He is worried that this tailings pond will fail as well. For a good reason..that last one did..
A true environmentally safe tailings pond will have a liner..no,leaching.. It will have stringent discharge limits.. Etc..
You seem to be more worried about making money at the environments expense..you also seem to hate kittens and puppies.. I know you didn’t mention either but neither did Jgalt mention anything that you claimed he did..isn’t it fun..lol
Gee whiz P Val, I love kittens and puppies!
You did notice that I did say that I believe that we all need to be more responsible in our extraction and use of our natural resources, didn’t you?
Hart guy… I know..how can anyone not love puppies and kittens ;).
I just hope the company does it right this time..
