Northern Health’s New Strategic Plan Revealed

Sunday, May 1, 2016 @ 6:45 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Northern Health has been  working with  health care professionals and community members  for the past year in  developing a new  Strategic plan  that will  set the stage  for the next half decade.

The plan  stays true to the original mission and vision:

Mission – Through the efforts of dedicated staff and physicians, in partnership with communities and organizations, we provide exceptional health services for Northerners.

Vision – Northern Health leads the way in promoting health and providing health services for Northern and rural populations.

It  outlines three priorities for the next 5 years as:

  •   Healthy People in Healthy Communities
  • Coordinated and Accessible Services
  • Quality

“I was impressed with the interest and engagement from staff, physicians, and community leaders during this process,” said Cathy Ulrich, Northern Health’s President & Chief Executive Officer. “The implementation of the 2016 – 2021 Strategic Plan will further Northern Health’s vision to lead the way in promoting health and providing health services for the population who live across the North. ”

More than  2,100 people from across the North Health region  provided input into the strategic plan. Their feedback was gathered through in-person focus groups with communities, staff, and physicians and online through a program called ThoughtExchange.

I wish they had outlined some tactics to reach this goal. Cathy Ulrich may be impressed but I can’t see how anything is changing at all.

How about more OR time for specialists. How about cutting the wait time down from 14 months to three to find out all I got is high blood pressure.
How about a helicopter ambulance, and a landing pad at the hospital.
Cathy, I as a taxpayer, am not impressed in the least.
Who were these 2100 people, and why no input from the thousands of others who live north of Kamloops?
What I am impressed with are all the incredible Doctors and nurses in PG, especially those on the front lines in the ER. They are all frustrated as well, as we in the Central Interior see all the money going to the Lower Mainland.

“why no input from the thousands of others who live north of Kamloops?”

Because it is Northern Health. Look up their territory.

    Vision stays unchanged?

Vision – Northern Health leads the way in promoting health and providing health services for Northern and rural populations.

I think it should read “Northern urban and rural populations” or simply “Northern populations”.

The way it is written is that there may be a responsibility to provide health service in all of BC’s rural populations.

Not the clearest language. BUT, what else would one expect from a committee?

Cut all managers wages by 10%. Then put that money into more operating time and more nurses
