Council Supports Telus Cup

Tuesday, May 10, 2016 @ 5:47 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Next spring,  Prince George will host the Telus Cup, an event  P.G.  didn’t  apply for.

“They came to  us” said John Morrison,  one of the representatives of the organizing committee for the National Midget Hockey Tournament.

Morrison told Council  doing a good job on the Telus Cup  could go  long way to  landing the Memorial Cup.

This will be the second time Prince George has hosted the Telus Cup ( previously called the Air Canada Cup).  In 2001,  the City provided  grants totalling just over  $19 thousand dollars.  But that was then and this is now,  when the City has a Major Events Reserve.

Council has unanimously approved cash and in kind  donation  of up to $58 thousand dollars.  That would cover the use of the CN Centre,  logo work, traffic control,  security and logo work at the  arena.

Benefits to the city will include economic impact with  hotel stays and visitors.
