Prince George, B.C.- It started as a suggestion on facebook, and quickly grew to an event aimed at raising money for those impacted by the Fort McMurray fires.
Kim Gouchie is one of the organizers for the event which is taking place at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park through to the early afternoon today .”A friend of mine, Sharon Patterson said ‘Hey Kim we should get some musicians together and do a fundraiser for the families impacted by the fort McMurray fires'” says Gouchie, so Kim started organizing, getting in touch with some musician friends and some local businesses “All of a sudden boom, here we are.”
The weather is cooperating and anyone wanting to make a donation can do so by paying $2 to “spin the wheel” and get a prize. There are also raffle draws, glitter tattoo art and of course food . ” Integris ( Credit Union) is here with their bar b-que’s, and Save On foods donated the hot dogs for sale and all proceeds will go to the cause” says Gouchie.
The organizers and participants encouraged by the fact the dollars raised for the Red Cross will be matched dollar for dollar by the Federal Government. “Hopefully we ‘re going to raise as much money as we possibly can to help the Fort McMurray community rebuild.”
“We have a connection with the Red Cross for the event, so we know the Government will match dollar for dollar, which is really good incentive.”
The fundraiser goes until a little after two this afternoon at Lheidl T’enneh Memorial Park.

Amazing that a people can be so generous and caring despite the inter-generational poverty and government sanctioned abuse (residential schools) they have been through. Mussi Cho for being this giving to a community ravaged by fire.
