It’s Police Week
Prince George, B.C.- Today, through to the 21st of May, is Police Week, and the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Morris says Police Week, “Lets people get to know the women and men behind the badge.”
Police Week was first held in 1970 and provides an opportunity for the public to not only learn more about equipment and vehicles used by police, it is also an opportunity for Police to spread the message about key initiatives.
This year, issues such as family violence, are in the forefront says Minister Morris “Police are critical, front-line partners in preventing and eliminating the violence that affects too many women and children throughout our province.”
It’s also a great time to spread the word about recruitment says Minister Morris “Positive interaction with officers early in my life contributed to my decision to join the RCMP for what would become a 32-year career in the force – decades that I look back on with fondness and pride.”
Minister Morris adds this is a time to “meet officers, learn about the important work that they and various support staff perform, and perhaps consider the career opportunities that policing affords.”
