Prince George, B.C. – The popularity of the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society’s annual plant sale was evident once again on Sunday.
The sale began at 10 a.m. but the line-up in Parking Lot “B” was already starting to form a little after 9 and, by the time the sale officially began, it stretched a couple of people wide right to the back of the lot. The sale features many types of plants, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, vegetables, fruits, herbs, specialty plants and tips and advice from master gardeners.

Plant sale co-ordinator Birthe Miller noted that all of the plants for sale are grown by society members in the botanical garden, and educational display garden, which is located between the A and B parking lots. The society covers all of the expenses of the garden and the money raised through this sale, its lone fundraiser, goes back into the gardens which are tended by volunteers.
Speaking of volunteers, there were approximately 50 on hand to conduct the sale and give assistance to patrons. Miller says work bees have been held over the past week-and-a-half to prepare for the event.

Miller says a couple of the factors which make the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society plant sale so appealing are that prices are kept very reasonable and new plants are offered each year that simply cannot be found anywhere else in town.
