Fire Fighters Making Progress but Risk Remains
Fort St. John, B.C. – There has been little change since yesterday in the Siphon Creek wildfire and the Beatton Airport Road fire in the north east.
The Siphon Creek fire remains about 40% contained, with 62,700 hectares on the BC side, and 22,600 on the Alberta side of the border.
Beatton Airport Road fire, about 45 kms north of Ft. St. John remains at 80% contained.
Evacuation orders and alerts have been rescinded for areas near both fires.
Although there were significant amounts of precipitation ( some of it on the form of snow) over the past few days, another drying trend is starting which could last a week or more. The BC Wildfire Service says the fuel type in the Siphon Creek fire region dries out quickly and the risk could rapidly rise.
