Prince George, B.C. – A planned partial power outage will begin starting at 11 tonight at the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC).

Northern Health says it could potentially last until tomorrow evening and will impact some of the non-essential equipment at the hospital including reduced lighting and limited elevator access at various times while the work is occurring.

The health authority says the work is necessary in order to fix a transformer that caused a brief power outage on June 3, 2016. The power switch that was repaired in December, 2015 worked appropriately and is not the cause of this work.

Northern Health is also reminding the public about the “appropriate use of the emergency department.”

They say it should only be used “for sudden and/or serious health problems, not for on-going or minor health matters.”
